13 Puppies Rescued Just in Time From Arizona Desert

Hanna didn’t expect to save lives when she set out with her teenage son one January afternoon.

It was just an ordinary day until she spotted two black and white fluff balls in the middle of a busy dirt road, changing her plans instantly.

Rescued Right Before The Worst Happens

How could anyone leave a litter of tiny puppies stranded in the middle of nowhere? What kind of person would abandon them in such harsh conditions?

These were the questions running through Hanna Wilson’s mind as she drove to Rock Point, Arizona.

She had received an urgent call about eight puppies left alone on a dirt road. Time was running out!

When Hanna arrived, she found the puppies near a busy road, narrowly missing the cars. Realizing she needed help, she quickly posted an urgent message on Facebook.

Shelby Davis, the director of Soul Dog Rescue, responded immediately.

“I stopped everything to go find them,” Davis said to The Dodo.

Shelby faced an hour-long drive to Rock Point. Midway, she received a surprising message from Hanna:

“There were 13 puppies, not eight. There were more hiding.” Davis said.

The rescue mission had become even more challenging.

With her son’s help, Hanna managed to gather as many puppies as possible.

“Her son ran after all of them, and she got them all in a crate,” Davis said. “Then, they waited for us patiently.”

Hanna was relieved when Shelby arrived promptly to collect the puppies. Without Shelby’s help, she wouldn’t have known what to do with all thirteen pups.

Shelby was equally appreciative, valuing the community effort to save these lives.

Healthy and Waiting For Homes

At the shelter, the puppies were examined by a vet.

Despite their ordeal, they were in good health, though clearly very thirsty.

“I’ve never seen puppies drink as much as they did,” Davis said. “It seemed like they’d been out for a while.”

The puppies were saved just in time. Without Hanna and Shelby, they might not have made it through another night.

Adding to the happy ending, all the puppies found forever homes the very day they were rescued.

“They’re ridiculously cute and brave,” Shelby said. “I know they’ll all grow up to be amazing dogs.”

Thanks to Hanna and Shelby, these puppies now have a chance at a wonderful life. They are currently with foster families, but they will certainly find forever homes quickly as they were only 4-5 weeks old when rescued.
