Shelter Staff Couldn’t Figure Out Dog’s Breed Due To Her Condition Until A DNA Test Brought Surprising Results
A dog in Virginia was discovered in such terrible condition that even her rescuers couldn’t recognize her breed.
Too weak to resist, she gave in to the humans who found her, trusting them to help. The rescuers quickly began her healing journey, determined to bring her back to health.
In time, this brave pup, later named Glowup, stunned everyone with her incredible transformation. What once seemed impossible turned into a story of resilience and hope!
A Rough Start To Life
Animal control in Petersburg, Virginia, discovered Glowup in a heartbreaking state and transferred her to Richmond Animal League (RAL) without hesitation.

Her condition was dire. Her skin was inflamed, her fur missing, and she was covered in scabs due to severe demodectic mange.
Her appearance was so altered that rescuers initially misidentified her breed as a Shar Pei.

“When this sweet girl arrived, her skin suffered from a nasty case of Demodex. She was missing hair, was covered in scabs, and her skin was thickened,” RAL wrote on Facebook.
Despite her painful condition, Glowup’s rescuers were determined to help her heal. She was treated with medication and medicated baths, but above all, she was showered with love and attention.

The combination of medical care and tender affection helped Glowup’s true personality begin to shine.
As the days passed, everyone at the rescue became enamored with her sweet and resilient nature.
A Stunning Transformation
As Glowup’s health improved, her true identity was finally revealed.
No longer mistaken for a Shar Pei, the rescue staff realized she was a charming Pitbull mix with a personality as radiant as her emerging beauty.

Richmond Animal League shared her incredible journey on Facebook, posting “before and after” photos that showcased her transformation.
“We began a course of treatment that included medicated baths to help her skin and the results speak for themselves. We think Ms. Glowup should be in ads for the shampoo; I mean, look at her amazing before and after photos,” the RAL team wrote.
Glowup had blossomed into a vibrant, joyful dog. With her loving caregivers by her side, she found her confidence and happiness once again.
