Stuck In A Shelter For 93 Days Loving Pitbull Gets Adopted By His Favorite Volunteer

Shelters all around the States are full of loving dogs, abandoned by their old masters, left questioning what they did wrong.

Some are lucky to find a new furever home quickly, while for some others, the wait can be a lot longer.

This is what happened to Bubba Jr., who stayed in a shelter for 93 days. Until one day, something amazing happened.

A Shelter’s Loving Embrace

The Lewis and Clark Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, welcomes over 1,500 animals each year, boasting a remarkable 98% adoption rate.

This haven provides more than just a temporary refuge; it offers a chance at a new beginning for animals who have been neglected, abandoned, or misunderstood.

While some pets find their forever homes quickly, others, like Bubba Jr., find the shelter becoming a more permanent residence.

The Challenges of a Pitbull

Bubba Jr. spent 93 days at the shelter, a duration that speaks volumes about the challenges faced by pitbulls due to prevalent stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding the breed.

Despite his loving nature, Bubba Jr.’s breed label often led to hesitance or outright refusal from potential adopters, largely influenced by restrictive pet policies in rental housing that unfairly target pitbulls.

The shelter staff, recognizing the gentle soul behind the “giant meathead” façade, affectionately described Bubba Jr. as a dog who would win the trophy for “Most Likely to Kiss.”

“If we handed out trophies to each of our dogs, Bubba J’s trophy plaque would read: “Most Likely to Kiss.” He loves to run up and give his human teammates kisses and cuddles. He’s all about his human teammates, always eager to join them for a walk or a movie on the couch. When he’s not practicing his kisses, Bubba can be found working hard on his cuddling technique or scarfing down his kibble. He is truly a one-dog team, he doesn’t need any dogs (or any cats, for that matter) to steal his thunder.”

His fondness for cuddles, walks, and companionship painted a picture of a dog full of love, waiting for someone to look past the stereotypes and see his true self.

A Volunteer’s Heartfelt Decision

Among the many volunteers and visitors who passed through the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, one individual felt a special connection with Bubba Jr.

This bond, built over days and weeks of interaction, led to a decision that would change both their lives forever.

After 93 days, the volunteer decided to adopt Bubba Jr., turning a temporary shelter into a permanent, loving home.

A New Chapter Begins

The adoption was a heartwarming event not just for Bubba Jr. and his new dad but also for the entire shelter community.

To celebrate, the shelter shared Bubba Jr.’s “diary entry” on their Facebook page, a message expressing his joy to begin his new life.

The message quickly went viral, melting the hearts of everyone around the world. People were so happy for this lovely dog to finally find his furever home, and celebrated the beautiful act of his new dad.

The Power of Adoption

Bubba Jr.’s story is a perfect example of the transformative power of love and the impact of giving a shelter dog a second chance.

The shelter shared another diary entry from Bubba Jr., 5 days after his adoption:

“Dear Diary,

It’s day 5 in my new home and boy are things different... I love my new life in this place called ‘home’. Every day I wake up with my Favorite Volunteer and everyday is the best day ever!”

His journey from an overlooked shelter dog to a cherished family member really shows the importance of adopting from shelters and giving animals like Bubba Jr. the love and life they deserve.

For those considering adding a pet to their family, Bubba Jr.’s story is a compelling reminder of the many loving animals waiting in shelters, each with their own story and potential for companionship.

By choosing adoption, you not only provide a home to a deserving animal but also open your life to the joy and enrichment that pets bring.
