Friendly Shelter Dog Loves Playing With Everyone But No One Picks Him
Barney, a sweet and lovable dog, spent a long time at a shelter, hoping that someone would finally choose him as their forever pet.
Despite many visitors to the shelter, Barney remained unclaimed, watching as other dogs were adopted and taken to their new homes.
A Happy Spirit Despite Challenges
Throughout his stay at the Darlington County Humane Society in South Carolina, Barney was always optimistic and full of energy.

The shelter staff adored him, giving him hugs and kisses whenever another dog was picked instead of him. They hoped to lift his spirits, knowing that he was a joyful and affectionate dog who loved spending time with people.
“He enjoys playing with other dogs, definitely, but Barney most enjoys time with a person,” Wendy Ransome, foster coordinator for the shelter, shared with The Dodo. “Barney is a happy, friendly and affectionate boy.”
Wendy believed that many potential adopters were hesitant to choose him because of his large size, not realizing that he was one of the friendliest dogs around.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the shelter staff described Barney’s longing for attention:
“He longs for attention. When you visit his kennel, he whines begging you to take him out. He will press himself as close as he can against the gate so you can reach in and love every part of him possible. If you sit with him, he’s delighted. If you take him out to play, he’s over the moon.”
Despite the disappointments, Barney continued to greet everyone with excitement, hoping that one day, someone would take him home.
A New Opportunity For Adoption
In February of this year, Barney’s best friend, Lincoln, joined the effort to find him a home by encouraging more people to consider adopting him.

To increase his chances, Barney was transferred to Pee Dee Paws Grooming, another rescue organization in South Carolina.
Although it’s uncertain if Barney has been adopted yet, one thing is sure: he is a cheerful and loving dog who deserves the best home.
