Adopted Pit Bull Saves A Boy With Seizures And Becomes Local Hero
In a world quick to judge, I loved to learn the story of Brutus, a Pit Bull from Tulsa, who became a real-life hero.
From a neglected backyard to becoming a certified therapy dog, Brutus’s journey is not just heartwarming but a compelling argument against the misconceptions surrounding Pit Bulls.
Rescued From The Street
Brutus’s tale began in abandonment – he was left scared and completely alone in an abandoned house in North Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A good-hearted neighbor noticed the pup, and called Unchained Oklahoma, a rescue organization for abandoned pets. Brutus was rescued by Melody, a dedicated volunteer from “Unchained OK,” in a deserted backyard.
Scared and defensive, Brutus initially responded with growls and barks, a mere reflection of his fear and uncertainty.
Yet, with the organization’s compassionate care, including health care, proper nutrition, and hygiene, Brutus began to transform, revealing his playful and social nature.
A Natural Family Dog
It didn’t take long for Brutus to showcase his remarkable intelligence and adaptability
Excelling in socialization and obedience training, Brutus quickly learned his first commands, proving himself to be an ideal family companion.
His journey took a turn when Amber and her baby son, Jason, welcomed him into their home in Atoka. The connection was instant, laying the foundation for a bond that would soon prove life-saving.
Heroism Unleashed
When Jason, only two at the time, experienced his first seizure, Brutus’s intuitive response was nothing short of heroic
With Amber asleep in another room, unaware of the emergency, Brutus did not hesitate. He nudged Amber awake and led her to Jason, facilitating a timely medical response that saved the young boy’s life.
This incident marked the beginning of Brutus’s role as not just a pet but a guardian angel.
Following the initial scare, Brutus continued to anticipate and respond to Jason’s seizures, even pulling him to safety by his shirt collar on one occasion where the boy was having another seizure.
This protective instinct extended beyond the home, with Brutus accompanying Jason to and from school, embodying the role of a vigilant protector.
Beyond a Pet: A Certified Therapy and Service Dog
Recognizing Brutus’s natural aptitude for caregiving, Amber decided to formalize his role.
Brutus underwent professional training to become a certified therapy and service dog. His impact expanded beyond Jason’s life, touching the lives of countless individuals in hospitals and service centers across Oklahoma.
Brutus quickly became a beloved figure, offering comfort and support to those in need.
A Symbol of Hope and Love
His journey from an abandoned backyard to a cherished therapy dog challenges the stereotypes that have long plagued Pit Bulls.
Brutus not only saved Jason’s life but also became a source of joy and healing for many others, proving that with love, patience, and understanding, every dog has the potential to be a hero.
Ever since Amber gave him proper training, Brutus has been helping as a therapy dog in local hospitals, helping not only his favorite human, but dozen of others.
