Unable to care for him and his sibling anymore, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender them to the Humane Society in Hamilton County, Indiana.
The shelter staff could immediately see how deeply affected Ritter was by this. He seemed to have lost all hope, completely shutting down and withdrawing from everything around him.
Ritter couldn’t understand why his family had left him behind—he just wanted to be with them again.
But sadly, that wasn’t going to happen.

Hoping to find Ritter a new home, the shelter workers took a photo of him in his sad state and shared it on social media.
