This Mama Dog Was Cruelly Abandoned Simply For Giving Birth To Too Many Puppies

When the team at One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron, Ohio, heard about a mother dog and her newborn puppies being dumped, their hearts sank.

Her name was Violet, and all she had done was give birth to 12 puppies—more than her former family wanted to deal with. So, they left her behind.

But Violet’s story was about to change.

A Mother’s Love

Tanya Jonda, the rescue’s executive director, found out about Violet through a family friend.

A woman in Columbus had taken in Violet and her puppies after someone posted on Facebook that they’d been left on their property.

Even though caring for 13 dogs was a big task, Tanya didn’t hesitate. She welcomed the little family with open arms.

When they arrived at the rescue, it was clear Violet had been through a lot. She was thin, covered in fleas, and blind in one eye.

But her puppies? They were strong, healthy, and thriving—all thanks to their incredible mama.

“We gave the puppies names that start with ‘V.’ For being such a large litter, they get along very well and always pile up together when sleeping. This may be due to their abandonment and need for comfort.” Jonda told The Dodo.

Time For Healing

The rescue shared the full list of what Violet and her babies needed to get better: 26 vaccines, 26 de-wormings, 13 spay/neuters, heartworm tests, flea and tick treatments, microchips, and more.

It was a lot—but thanks to donations and the dedication of the rescue team, they got it all.

Violet watched as her pups slowly grew, gaining weight and confidence. One by one, their personalities began to shine.

Adoption Time

Soon enough, the puppies were ready to find homes.

Six of them were adopted quickly. Violet and the remaining pups had to wait a little longer, but they were safe and loved in the meantime.

Tanya described Violet as a gentle, sweet dog who loves people and other animals alike. She had been such a good mother—patient, calm, and full of love—and now it was her turn to be taken care of.

The team was confident that every single one of them would eventually find the perfect home.

And with how far they’d come, there was no doubt that this special little family had a beautiful future ahead.
