Volunteer Drives 1,300 Miles To Return Lost Dog Only To Learn Owner No Longer Wants Her
Blue, a lovely Pit Bull mix from Florida, found herself in a strange and cold place, wandering the streets of Michigan.
Shivering and alone, she was discovered by the Humane Society of Midland County, who quickly took her in to ensure her safety.
The shelter staff were delighted when they realized Blue had a microchip, which could help them track down her family.
A Long Trip Back To Her Family In Florida
They called the number linked to the chip and were surprised to learn that Blue’s home was in Florida. Her owner explained that Blue had gone missing about a week ago, and they had no idea how she ended up so far from home.
The good news was that her owner wanted Blue back. Excited, the shelter began searching for someone to drive the pup home.
After a social media call for volunteers, Stephanie James stepped forward, moved by Blue’s story. Along with her brother, James made the long journey from Michigan to Florida, driving over 1,300 miles to reunite Blue with her owner.
On the trip, Blue quickly bonded with her rescuers, resting her head on James’ shoulder and showering them with affection.
When they finally arrived, Blue recognized her home immediately. However, her 22-year-old owner wasn’t home at the time, and it was her mother who greeted them.
A Worrying Twist
As soon as Blue’s owner arrived, the joyful pup couldn’t contain her excitement.
The group discussed Blue’s journey and tried to figure out how she had ended up in Michigan. They suspected Blue, being clever and energetic, had found her way to a freeway, where someone might have picked her up.
“She’s a very wiggly, very smart dog. They think she made her way near the freeway and someone picked her up,” James told The Dodo.
But there was an unexpected twist.
Despite the long journey, Blue’s owner explained that she couldn’t keep her due to her busy schedule with school and work. She asked James to take Blue back, mentioning how much the dog had taken to her during the trip.
Shocked and saddened, James agreed.
On the way back to Michigan, Blue seemed confused, looking back at the home she had once known. James reassured her, saying, “It’s going to be OK, Blue. We love you.”
A Happy Ending For Blue At The End
Although James couldn’t adopt Blue herself, as she already had four rescue dogs, she knew the shelter would help her find a loving family.
Sure enough, as soon as the Humane Society shared Blue’s situation online, they were flooded with adoption applications.
Not long after Blue returned to the shelter, Robert Allison, who had recently lost his beloved Pit Bull, came to meet her.
Their connection was immediate. Blue jumped into his arms, and Allison knew she was meant to be his new companion.
He adopted her that same day, and Blue settled into her new forever home, showering her new family with love.
James later visited Blue, and it was clear that both were overjoyed to see each other again. Thanks to the Humane Society and all the caring people involved, Blue found the happy ending she truly deserved.
