Abandoned Pitbull Mom Left At Shelter Without Her Puppies Can't Stop Crying

Cinnamon, a red nose Pitbull, was left heartbroken after being abandoned at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control shelter in North Carolina.

Separated from her puppies, she sat in her kennel with tears filling her eyes each time someone came near.

Her sadness didn’t go unnoticed, and one caring volunteer decided to share Cinnamon’s story, setting off a chain of events that would completely transform her life.

A Heartbreaking Cry For Help

Sarah Jennings Sleime, a volunteer with the Greater Charlotte SPCA, made an unexpected visit to the shelter one Saturday. As she walked past the kennels, one dog caught her attention—Cinnamon.

Sitting with a slumped posture, Cinnamon’s sorrow was visible. It was clear she had recently given birth, and the absence of her puppies left her devastated.

The shelter workers suspected she had been used as a breeding dog.

“[The shelter workers] believe she was confined and used as a breeding machine,” Sleime said. “She’s obviously had many, many litters,” Sleime told The Dodo.

When Sarah bent down to talk to her, Cinnamon’s eyes filled with tears. Sarah knew she had to help, even though there were no foster homes available for big dogs at the time.

Determined to make a difference, Sarah filmed Cinnamon “crying” and posted the video on Facebook.

Within 48 hours, the video had been viewed over a million times and shared by thousands. People from all over wanted to give Cinnamon the loving home she deserved.

A New Home Thanks To The Internet

One of the people who saw the video was Meghan Connor Shelton, a Charlotte resident with a special love for Pitbulls.

After watching the heartbreaking footage of Cinnamon crying, Meghan’s entire family was moved to tears. The next morning, they rushed to the shelter to meet her.

The connection was immediate. The family, including their children, fell in love with Cinnamon, and they decided to bring her home.

They renamed her Rosie, and after she was spayed, she joined their family and met their other dog, Blu, a 3-year-old Pitbull.

Though the family worried about how Rosie and Blu would get along, their worries quickly faded. The two dogs instantly bonded, sitting side by side with wagging tails.

Now, they are inseparable, like lifelong friends.

As Rosie settled into her new life, her personality began to shine. One of her most endearing quirks is that she snorts like a pig when she gets excited.

Rosie’s story didn’t just change her life—it also inspired others to adopt.

Sarah shared how the video led to other shelter dogs being saved, as families who came to adopt Cinnamon chose to rescue other dogs in need.

One simple video changed everything for Rosie and countless other pups.
