This Fourth Grader Wrote A Letter To His Neighbor’s Dog Owners And The Internet Can’t Handle It

During a time when the world felt distant and uncertain, one young boy found a heartwarming way to connect—with a puppy next door.

What started with a handwritten letter turned into an unforgettable quarantine friendship that captured hearts everywhere.

A Quarantine Friendship That Melted Hearts

Back during the pandemic, when everyone had to stay home and keep their distance, a young boy named Troy found a special way to make a new friend.

Troy, a sweet fourth-grader, noticed something that made him smile—his neighbors had an adorable Golden Retriever puppy.

His name was Arthur, but everyone knew him as Arthur the Floof.

Troy instantly felt drawn to the pup and wanted to connect, even if the world wasn’t exactly in a great place for new friendships.

Since he couldn’t knock on the door or play outside like usual, Troy decided to write a letter.

It wasn’t just any letter—it was a thoughtful, handwritten note in red and blue asking if he could walk and care for Arthur someday. It read:

Hello neighbors, my name is Troy, I’m in 4th grade and I’m just wondering if maybe after this virus you need a dog sitter and if so, I can take your dog on walks and more.”

How could anyone say no to that?

Arthur’s family didn’t. They loved the letter, and soon after, Troy and Arthur had their first pup-date.

Even though they had to be careful with distancing, the two managed to spend time together and form a bond that was as joyful as it was wholesome.

Arthur was just as excited to make a new friend. On his Instagram, he shared:

I made friends with a small hooman today. He’s like basically me-sized. I bet I can get him to give me more treats than my hoomans.”

Even if they couldn’t be physically close all the time, their friendship blossomed. The sweet letter Troy wrote quickly made its way online and melted hearts across the internet.

Arthur joked with his fans:

My hoomans told me that me and my fren Troy broke the pupernet yesterday.

Their photo never got shared—Troy was still little and his privacy was important—but that didn’t stop the world from celebrating their connection.

Arthur’s Life Today

Since those days, a lot has changed. Arthur grew into a handsome, full-grown Golden Retriever.

His family moved between Utah and Chicago, his mom graduated, and he became a bit of a star online.

Even now, Arthur looks back fondly on the day he met Troy:

For the last day before my birthday, I had to look back on the thing that brought me all you! Thanks to my pal down the hall I made so many internet frens this year. Just as an update, Troy and I hung out a lot before I moved to Utah! This will always be our fav quarantine memory.” he wrote on Instagram.

One little letter led to a beautiful bond. Troy may be older now, but his kind gesture and big heart are still remembered.

And Arthur?

He’ll always be the floofy pup who made a lifelong friend during some ruff times.
