Strawberry The Unicorn Dog Is Saved From Euthanasia And Adopted By Loving Family
In the bustling city of Los Angeles, a pit bull named Strawberry found herself navigating the turbulent waters of shelter life.
Facing the dire prospect of euthanasia, due to medical issues that left her nearly invisible to potential adopters, she was doomed.
However, Strawberry’s tale took a hopeful turn, thanks to rescuers and a new loving family.
Saved From The Kill List
Strawberry’s journey was marked by challenges from the outset.
Suffering from a severe skin infection and mange, with two noticeable lumps on her head, she was far from the image of the dogs typically sought after by families looking to adopt.
She was rescued from the brink of euthanasia in April 2022 by the La Belle Foundation, an animal rescue organization dedicated to giving animals like Strawberry a second chance.
The good people of the foundation ran medical tests on the lumps, and they reached a conclusion: it was not a tumor, and it was not life threatening!
This is when her story began to change, for the better.
Over time, the scars on her head healed, and the swelling reduced. The bump stayed though, making her a beautiful pup unicorn 🦄
Different is Good
Kristen Kuhlman, a resident of South Pasadena, California, and a mother to twins, found herself repeatedly drawn to Strawberry’s updates on the foundation’s Instagram page.
Moved by Strawberry’s gentle eyes and unique appearance, Kuhlman felt a deep connection to the dog who had experienced so much yet remained hopeful.
“I just kept seeing her picture pop up on the foundation’s Instagram page and she was still available... She just had such gentle eyes and, you know, I had never seen a dog like her ever before,” Kuhlman said. “She’s very unique and recognizable and one in a million, one of a kind.”
With a heart for animals overcoming adversity, Kuhlman knew that Strawberry would be the perfect addition to her family, despite the challenges that might come with her adoption.
Settling Into Family Life
Bringing Strawberry home in September 2022 was not without its trials.
The transition to a stable environment was initially difficult for Strawberry, who was understandably nervous and disoriented after moving from shelter to shelter.
Nights were tough, filled with uncertainty and fear for Strawberry, who would often cry, leaving the Kuhlman family wondering if they had made the right decision.
A Transformation Through Love
Despite the rocky start, Strawberry’s story is one of triumph.
Within weeks, she turned into an affectionate, joyful member of the Kuhlman family, her personality shining through as she adapted to her new life.
“But, boy, she came out of her shell within a couple of weeks and she became the most affectionate dog. My family loves her.” said Kuhlman.
Whether engaging in a spirited game of fetch with the kids or snuggling on the couch for naps with Mr. Kuhlman, Strawberry proved to be a perfect fit for the family.
The family has decided to keep Strawberry’s unique name, as it was rooted in its reflection of her personality. Sweet like a strawberry!
A New Chapter
Today, Strawberry’s life is a far cry from her uncertain beginnings.
Surrounded by love and acceptance, she has found her forever home with a family that sees beyond her physical challenges to the incredible companion she is.
Strawberry’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that compassion and understanding can have on animals in need, proving that every dog, regardless of their past, deserves a chance at happiness and a loving home.
