Rescue Dog Finally Finds His Forever Home After Nearly 3 Years Of Waiting

After Three Long Years, Bones The Rescue Dog Finally Finds His Forever Family

In Hamden, Connecticut, a local animal rescue called Where The Love Is, Inc. works tirelessly to provide care for dogs in desperate need.

While many furry friends find their forever homes quickly, there are some who linger, waiting longer than anyone could have imagined.

For almost three years, Bones remained at the rescue, patiently hoping for the loving family that had eluded him for so long.

Meet Bones

Bones came from the streets of Texas, where he was found wandering alone, desperately seeking safety and compassion.

He earned his name due to his initially frail appearance; he looked as if he was “just skin and bones.”

Once he was rescued, Bones underwent a transformation, slowly regaining his health and strength. When he arrived at the shelter in Connecticut, everyone immediately recognized his special spirit and loving nature.

However, despite his gentle personality and playful demeanor, finding the right forever home for Bones proved to be a significant challenge.

As a large male Pitbull mix, he faced an uphill battle in his search for acceptance, as many potential adopters were hesitant.

A Shelter’s Dedication

Over the years, the shelter staff worked diligently to make sure Bones felt loved and valued, showering him with affection while also striving to find him a permanent home.

Though he was cherished by the volunteers, the reality remained that life in a shelter couldn’t compare to the warmth of a loving family. Their social media posts captured his personality perfectly:

He is adored by our volunteers, great with people, and friendly to everyone. He wants nothing more than to be close to you to receive (and give big kisses). Bones loves toys and is never without his heavy-duty, black rubber bone.” they shared on a Facebook post.

Despite their efforts, including waiving his adoption fee thanks to a generous donor, no one seemed ready to commit to him.

But the shelter team refused to give up on Bones.

They organized day trips for him to socialize with other dogs, took him on shopping trips to pick out toys, and made sure he was included in every adoption event.

They created videos showcasing Bones’ delightful personality, collaborating with local creators to increase his visibility.

Their perseverance paid off when, in September 2023, Bones’ long-awaited moment arrived.

A Dream Come True

At last, Bones had a family to call his own, and he quickly adapted to his new life, radiating happiness.

The shelter joyously announced on Facebook: “Bones is home! After almost three years of waiting for his forever family, Bones was adopted by Adell and his son earlier this month. While Bones will be missed by everyone at the shelter who had the pleasure of knowing him, we are all thrilled and grateful for Adell’s love and support for our boy.

As he bid farewell to the shelter staff who had cared for him, Bones stood by the window, grinning widely, as if he was thanking them for not giving up.

All good things indeed come to those who wait, and Bones is the shining example of love, resilience, and the power of hope.
