Starving Pup With Days To Live Blossoms Into The Most Loving Dog

Pumpkin didn’t have the best start in life, but she sure found the perfect ending.

This sweet pup, weak and malnourished, wandered into the yard of Tre and Alicia, a couple from Washington D.C., looking for help.

Little did she know, she was about to find a forever home filled with love.

Falling In Love With Pumpkin

Tre and Alicia, always having a soft spot for dogs, were instantly drawn to Pumpkin when their friends mentioned the little Pittie puppy who had sneaked into their yard.

When they first met Pumpkin, they saw a little pup that looked like a weirdly shaped pumpkin—hence the name.

But Pumpkin wasn’t just oddly shaped; she was also very weak and underweight, with a bloated tummy. The vet even said she might not have survived another day or two on her own.

Despite her rough condition, Pumpkin’s personality shone through. As soon as she was adopted, she was full of spunk and silliness. But what stood out most was how much she loved to cuddle.

“She’s like a big dog in a small dog’s body. She always sits in my lap or right next to me,” shared Alicia with The Dodo, reflecting on how Pumpkin would try to sleep on top of her computer just to stay close.

Life With Her Amazing Pawrents

Pumpkin’s bond with her new family only grew stronger. She even won over Laila, Tre, and Alicia’s older dog, who was known for being picky about other dogs.

But within hours of meeting Pumpkin, the two were already snuggling on the couch together.

“Laila would just be so patient with her,” Alicia recalls with The Dodo, describing how Pumpkin would nip at Laila playfully, and Laila would calmly indulge her new little sister.

Though the family experienced a heartbreaking loss when Laila passed away in 2019, their sorrow was tempered by the arrival of their baby girl later that year.

Pumpkin immediately formed a close bond with the newborn. Whether it’s going for walks, taking trips, or just snoozing together, Pumpkin is always by her side.
