The Last Pup Left At The Shelter Plays Spends Her Days Playing With Her ‘Imaginary Friends’
Frito is a sweet dog who has been patiently waiting for a loving family for quite some time. Even though the shelter has hosted big events to help her get adopted, Frito still hasn’t found her forever home.
But her upbeat attitude despite this challenge has melted hearts across the internet!
Frito Misses Her Chance
The Metro East Humane Society holds a Black Friday adoption event every year, where generous sponsors cover the adoption fees.
This year’s event was a massive success, with 94 animals—64 of them dogs—finding loving families. However, amidst all the happy endings, one sweet dog named Frito was left behind.

The staff, who adored Frito, were heartbroken that she was overlooked.
Ali Hillard, the program manager, shared the team’s disappointment with The Dodo: “She is a very lovely and deserving girl, so it was a shame that she was overlooked and no one came forward for her. We all know how special Frito is, so to see so many people pass her by was upsetting.“
Frito was taken back to the shelter in Madison County, Illinois, where the once-bustling space now felt eerily quiet.

Upon realizing she was the only one left behind, Frito’s sadness was palpable, but her caretakers showered her with love, holding her face, cuddling her, and kissing her goodnight.
Finding Joy Despite The Loneliness
Though Frito was initially heartbroken, she didn’t let her loneliness keep her down for long.
The next day, she was running around the shelter yard, happily playing with her “imaginary friends.”

The shelter staff captured this uplifting moment in a TikTok video, showing Frito with stuffed animals in her mouth, racing around as if she hadn’t a care in the world.
“Frito is really not a picky girl. Her ideal forever home would be any home looking for a dog that is a healthy mix of both sweet and cuddly while also being super silly and playful,” said Hillard.
Her resilience and joyful spirit touched the hearts of her caretakers.
A New Chapter In Foster Care
Thankfully, Frito didn’t remain alone for long. The shelter soon shared on TikTok that she had moved to a foster home, where she was thriving.
The warmth and comfort of a home, even if temporary, made all the difference in Frito’s life.

Now, she is happily adjusting and enjoying her time in foster care. The staff at the shelter remain hopeful that Frito will soon find her forever family.
