A Shelter Dog’s Heartfelt Christmas Wish For A Family Will Break Your Heart
Christmas is a magical season filled with love and joy, but for some, it only magnifies the loneliness they feel.
One shelter dog, after 200 days of waiting, saw Santa as her last hope for a loving home.
A Heartfelt Christmas Wish
Three-year-old Laguna, a Labrador and American Staffordshire terrier mix had been at Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue in Rayne, Louisiana, for almost 200 days.
Though she was healthy and full of energy, no one had shown any interest in adopting her.
“Laguna’s ideal home would be with an active family, with children, and another adult dog that loves to play,” Kelli Briscoe, Representative of Haseyas New Beginning, said to Newsweek. “Laguna has energy for days and enjoys playing with her dog friends outside. Laguna is super smart and needs someone willing to keep her mind busy and teach her new things.”
In a touching plea, Laguna turned to Santa Claus for help, hoping he could grant her deepest wish—a family to call her own.
The Saddest Letter To Santa
Laguna’s letter, shared by the rescue team on Facebook, was nothing short of heartbreaking.
In it, she asks Santa for a loving family and describes her playful, loving personality. The letter read:
“Hi Santa,
I heard about you from my volunteer friends, and they told me you can help find forever homes for us doggies so I am really hoping you can help me find one.
Don’t get me wrong Santa, they are wonderful to me here at Haseya’s. It was a little overwhelming at first, but I’m used to it now and after many months I have good friends here who take me out and play with me.
Here’s what you can tell adopters about me Santa that might help. I’m a happy girl and a very friendly one …I’m really silly and love to have fun! I need a grown-up family that thinks I will be so speciaI they will play with me till I drop …I love chasing tennis balls ….and I like to go on long walks too.
I really hope you can find a family for me Santa. I would love to play fetch with you if you come to the shelter sometime and I thank you so much for reading my letter.
Love, Laguna.”
The message touched everyone who read it and sparked an outpouring of support and shares online.
A Shelter’s Mission Of Hope
Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue, founded in 2018, originally focused on rescuing equines but quickly expanded its mission to include all animals, with a special focus on dogs like Laguna.
To raise awareness about the plight of long-term shelter dogs, they created a Facebook campaign called “Holiday Sleepovers.”
This initiative encourages families to foster overlooked shelter dogs, like Laguna, for the holiday season, giving them a chance to experience love and comfort in a home, even if just for a short time.
Every Dog Deserves A Christmas Miracle
Laguna’s Christmas wish, shared through social media, touched many hearts, and the shelter hopes that someone will make her dream come true.
As Christmas is a time of giving, the rescue team remains hopeful that a family will come forward, either for Laguna or for one of the many other dogs in need.
While Laguna waits, her letter serves as a reminder that every dog deserves a warm and loving home, especially during the holidays. And with the help of caring people, maybe her Christmas miracle will soon come true.
