Rescue Dog Meets New Dad For The First Time And Can’t Stop Hugging Him
For most people, the idea of adopting a new dog after losing a beloved pet can feel impossible. Dogs become such cherished members of the family that they seem irreplaceable.
This was true for the Mccraw family, who, despite their heartbreak, found the strength to welcome a new friend into their lives—not to replace the one they lost, but to give a deserving dog a chance at a better life.
Meeting Maggie
After the Mccraw family lost their beloved dog, Mischka, to cancer, they were heartbroken.
Just when they were deep in their grief, Maggie entered their lives, and they instantly knew she was meant to be with them.
Halfway There Rescue set up a meeting in South Carolina, and from the moment they met Maggie, it was clear this was no ordinary encounter.
“She melted my heart,” McCraw told The Dodo. “We had lost our other dog a few months prior to meeting Maggie, and this was just a meet and greet in my mind. I didn’t think I was ready for a new dog at the time.”

Despite their initial reservations, Mary and her husband, Mark, fell head over heels for Maggie. During their first meeting, Maggie showered her new dad with hugs, as if to thank him for rescuing her.
Maggie Has A Tough Past
The Mccraws were heartbroken to learn about Maggie’s past.
She had been abused by her previous owners, used solely for breeding, and then abandoned when they no longer wanted her. Fortunately, after being rescued, Maggie spent time in foster care with Andra Mack, who helped her regain trust in humans.
“She became one of the sweetest dogs we have ever fostered,” Mack said to The Dodo. “The moment that Maggie met her new dad, my husband and I just looked at each other — because we knew. It was like a movie.”
It was finally time for Maggie to move to her forever home in South Carolina, and the Mccraws couldn’t have been happier to welcome her into their family. Even Mack noticed their connection.
“They were meant to be together,” she said. “The beam of sunshine that is clear in the video makes me believe that their former dog, Mischka, was looking down on that meeting and smiling.”
It’s moments like these that remind us how wonderful people can make a difference in a dog’s life.
Here’s to Maggie and her new family, who are sure to have many happy adventures together!
