Rescued Mama Dog Finds A Forever Home And Becomes The Ultimate Co-Pilot

Zorra’s journey began in hardship, but it led her to an adventurous and loving life.
Once struggling to survive with her puppies, she is now soaring through the skies with her new family.
A Fresh Start For Zorra
At just nine months old, Zorra found herself pregnant and gave birth to a litter of seven puppies.
She did everything she could to keep them safe while living under a truck canopy in Yakima, Washington.
Luckily, a kind-hearted person spotted her and her little family, ensuring they were rescued and brought to The Humane Society of Yakima.

After spending time at the shelter and watching each of her puppies find loving homes, it was finally Zorra’s turn to be adopted.
On the one-year anniversary of their beloved dog’s passing, Ty and his family saw a photo of Zorra online. Taking it as a sign, Ty immediately got in his car and drove to the shelter to meet her.
The moment she saw him, Zorra ran straight into his lap, as if she had known him forever.

“It was like a dog greeting you after coming home, and we were like, ‘Oh, okay, this is not a normal experience with a dog in a rescue shelter,’” Ty recalled.
That instant connection made it impossible for Ty to leave without her. Zorra had found her forever home.
An Adventurous New Life
Zorra’s new life is anything but dull. With her new family being outdoor enthusiasts, she quickly adapted to their adventurous lifestyle.
“I’m a pilot, and she flies with us. We made her a little headset to protect her hearing, and she loves to go along in there.“

While she can’t stick her head out like she would in a car, Zorra loves looking out the window, admiring the breathtaking views from above.
Beyond being a co-pilot, she’s also an incredibly skilled huntress. Having once needed to provide for her puppies, she developed impressive patience and observational skills.

“When we let her into the backyard, we’ll watch her just learn from a blade of grass that is blowing in the wind, and she’ll study it for an hour. It’s very insightful to see that this is what a dog who’s had to provide for herself has learned.“
On the flip side, Zorra is also full of energy and gets the zoomies multiple times a day. She loves running, tossing her toys in the air, and even digging up her grandparents’ yard.
Discovering Her Roots
Curious about her unique appearance, Ty decided to run a DNA test to determine Zorra’s exact breed.
“Her DNA says that she’s Husky and American Pit Bull and then Supermutt.“
Despite her Husky heritage, Zorra is an unusually quiet dog, preferring to communicate through her expressive eyes.

She’s also incredibly protective. When Ty had eye surgery, leaving him on couch rest, her motherly instincts kicked in, and she never left his side throughout his recovery.
She extends her affectionate nature to guests, often greeting them with a toy and inviting them to play tug-of-war.

“The funny thing is that at times, she’ll bring her tug-of-war toys to the cats to try to play tug with them. And, you know, cats don’t do that.“
Zorra went from struggling to survive under a truck to soaring through the skies with her best friend, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
