Abandoned Pup Left To Starve Ate Whatever She Could To Survive
Prima’s life was once a fight for survival after being cruelly abandoned in winter.
Starving, sick, and desperate, she was on the verge of death.
A Shocking Discovery
Jannel and Robby, volunteers from Houston, found Prima during their regular park visits to feed dumped animals.
The sight of her was devastating.
Prima was lying in one of the shelters set up for stray animals, but something was terribly wrong. She was severely underweight with a bloated belly, possibly from heartworm disease.
As they approached, it was clear she had been eating anything to survive.
“This girl was starved to the point that when she was dumped, she ate anything she came across and continued to eat,” Corridor Rescue later shared on Facebook.
They immediately contacted Corridor Rescue for help, knowing she was in grave danger.
Despite her fear of humans, Prima seemed to trust her rescuers as they brought her to safety.
A Life-or-Death Battle
At the vet, Prima was diagnosed with end-stage heartworms, which had migrated to her pulmonary artery. This made surgical removal nearly impossible.
Her condition was dire, and she was initially considered a hospice patient, with the goal being to provide her comfort and love in a foster home.
Prima’s rescuers believe she endured years of neglect and pain. Though her past remains a mystery, it’s clear she was abandoned and mistreated, leaving her with lasting emotional scars.
After careful deliberation, the rescue team decided to attempt an invasive heartworm treatment, which involved a series of injections over several months.
This treatment was her final hope, and the rescue team was determined to give her a chance.
A Miraculous Recovery
Despite her condition, Prima began showing signs of progress during treatment. Her swollen belly disappeared, and she gradually regained strength.
“She wasn’t going to let anything from her past stand in her way of a happily ever after. This little miracle refused to be held down by the word hospice any longer,” the rescue shared.
By the time she had completed her treatment, Prima was unrecognizable. Her health had dramatically improved, and she was ready to begin a new chapter of her life.
Within months, Prima transformed from a broken, scared dog into a playful, affectionate companion. She was now full of love, and her foster family adored her.
Prima thrived in her new life, enjoying every moment and learning to trust again. Her transformation was nothing short of miraculous.
Once considered a hospice patient, Prima was now ready for her forever home. Her new family arrived, and she was finally given the second chance she deserved.
