Trembling Frenchie Finally Learns What Love Is Thanks To An Incredible Foster Family
Today’s story is about Sunshine, a little Frenchie who never received the love she deserved and became deeply distrustful of humans, even of the compassionate rescuers at her shelter.
A Scared Sunshine
When Sunshine arrived at the Ohio shelter, she was a bundle of nerves. She trembled constantly, hid in the corner of her kennel, and tried to disappear from sight.

“For the first couple of days, all I could do was sit there in her cage and patiently wait for her to trust me. After about two weeks, she would finally come up, smell my hand, and allow me to pet her without shaking,” Joe, an Ohio rescuer, said to The Dodo.
It took two full weeks before this sweet pup worked up the courage to see if the humans around her could truly be her friends.
Fortunately, she found that she was in kind hands.

The shelter staff knew that Sunshine needed more than they could offer to regain her trust in people.
They decided to find her a foster home where she could truly learn what it felt like to be loved and secure.

Heartbroken at Sunshine’s condition, Tina knew that with time, patience, and affection, she could show her foster pup the joy of life in a loving home.

“She was kind of scared of us at first. She didn’t really want to come to us. And she was not in good shape. She was really thin,” said Tina, who became Sunshine’s foster mom.
Tina brought Sunshine home, determined to help her blossom.
“She was a puppy mill mama and everything was brand new to her. She would like to follow around my other dog to learn everything,” Tina added.
Everything in a home was a mystery to Sunshine. When she first saw a dog bed, she didn’t know what it was for. Faced with a pile of toys, she seemed completely puzzled. But over time, Sunshine started to understand what each new discovery meant.

Eventually, she even experienced her very first zoomies.
“She was relaxed and trusting enough where she could be a dog,” Tina shared.
One day, as Tina was watching a video from Joe, Sunshine’s first rescuer, Sunshine perked up at the sound of his voice, recognizing her initial rescuer.
She wagged her tail and beamed with excitement, reminding Tina just how far she had come. Knowing how happy this would make Sunshine, Tina planned a surprise reunion.

When the day of the reunion came, the joy on both Sunshine and Joe’s faces was unmistakable.
