Shelter Dog Yearns For Affection, Holds Hands With Visitors

Maxine was left at a shelter because the family’s other dog didn’t get along with her. Feeling abandoned, she waited for a new home.

Her sweet nature touched many hearts, leading her to find a new loving family.

She Was Rejected By Her Fellow Canines

In September 2022, Maxine, a one-year-old German Shepherd, was handed over to City of San Bernardino Animal Services in California.

Her previous family surrendered her because she didn’t get along with their other dog.

“She was great with everyone in the home, but the other dog did not like her,” explained Melissa, the volunteer coordinator at the shelter.

Maxine transitioned from a loving home to a shelter crate filled with unfamiliar faces. She longed for the affection and freedom she had lost.

Craving Human Love

Soon after her arrival, the staff observed Maxine extending her paws through the crate bars, seeking human touch. She craved love and the gentle caress of a human hand.

Each time visitors came by her crate, Maxine would become visibly excited.

In November 2022, a video posted on the shelter’s Facebook page showed Maxine eagerly wriggling in her crate, pressing her head close to the bars for pets. She relished the attention, licking visitors’ hands to express her gratitude.

Maxine held onto hope that her circumstances would soon improve.

Finally Adopted!

Her story and her charming way of reaching out to visitors’ hands touched many hearts.

Just weeks after her story went viral on social media, Maxine was adopted.

She now has a permanent family who will give her all the love and cuddles she deserves. They will hold her paws every day, making her feel truly loved.

Maxine’s happy ending brought immense joy to everyone at the shelter. We wish all shelter dogs find their forever homes and live happily ever after.
