Man Finds Terrified Dog Hiding In The Woods Refusing Help Because Of His Tough Past
Roger Massey was determined to help a little Pit Bull who was struggling to survive in the woods.
He couldn’t ignore the pup, even though he knew rescuing him wouldn’t be easy.
Trying To Get The Pittie Out Of The Woods
For three long weeks, Roger did everything he could to assist the pup, bringing him food and water daily. He also reached out to various animal rescues but with little success.
The dog, later named Pappas, was frightened and unsure of human intentions.
He had likely suffered from severe abuse and neglect, which made him wary of anyone who tried to approach him. Despite this, Roger never gave up.
“I take him food and water, but he will not let me get close to him,” Roger shared on Facebook. “He allows my dogs to get close. He only has three legs and is visibly the victim of severe abuse and neglect.”
Pappas, unsure of who to trust, kept his distance, but Roger’s persistence paid off. Finally, Saving Hope Animal Rescue responded to Roger’s calls.
Back-Ups Finally Arrived
When volunteers from Saving Hope Animal Rescue arrived, Pappas seemed to sense that his time in the woods was coming to an end.
The volunteers carefully slipped a leash over his head, and, exhausted, Pappas didn’t resist.
The moment he felt the warmth of his rescuers’ touch, Pappas’s fear began to fade, revealing a sweet and gentle soul.
“He has the most soulful eyes and snuggles and wants to follow his human everywhere,” Lauren Anton, the executive director of Saving Hope Animal Rescue, said to The Dodo.
Life After Rescue
At the rescue, Pappas received a thorough vet checkup, which revealed he had severe arthritis and tested positive for heartworm.
He was immediately started on medication and joint supplements, but these challenges didn’t dampen his spirits.
Pappas soon found a loving foster home, where he finally experienced what it meant to be cared for and loved.
This brave pup, who had endured so much, was now on the path to discovering the joy and security that come with a forever family.
