Sweet Dog With Teddy Bear Face Doesn’t Know Why He Keeps Getting Returned
This is the story of an owner who, with a heavy heart, had to say goodbye to his beloved dog, Martin, due to his own age.
Finding a new, loving home for a senior dog is no easy task, but fortunately, the world is full of good souls.
Seeking A New Family For Martin
Martin, a beloved dog, was adored by his elderly owner.
Unfortunately, his 89-year-old owner could no longer care for him, so he sought a new family for Martin.
Finding a home for Martin was challenging since he was 10 years old, and many potential adopters considered him too old. Despite his friendly and lively demeanor, he was often overlooked.
“He adjusted pretty well. I don’t know if he understood what was going on, but even from day one, he was just this happy, easy-going, really sweet old man with a Teddy bear face.” Samantha Ranlet, marketing communications specialist at the SPCA, shared with The Dodo.
Martin faced several setbacks. Over two months, seven adoption attempts failed for various reasons.
“He kept getting passed over again and again.” Ranlet added.
Internet To The Rescue
After his story spread online, it gained massive attention. Thousands of people liked, shared, and inquired about Martin.
One of the interested parties was an older couple who weren’t discouraged by his age or heartworm disease. They adored his Teddy-bear energy.
“They weren’t afraid of his age and they weren’t afraid of the fact that he had heartworm disease. They just fell in love with him and his Teddy-bear energy.” Ranlet mentioned.
Even though Martin was still undergoing treatment, the couple adopted him, giving him a loving home. He also made a new friend, a cat named Hilltop.
“It’s nice to give more attention to senior dogs. It helps remind people that they’re worthwhile to adopt, too.” Ranlet said.
