Dog Survives Alone In The Wild For 19 Days After Being Thrown From Fatal Rollover Crash

In the summer of 2018, the Orr family from Kansas went through something no family ever wants to face. What started as a peaceful trip turned into a nightmare.
Jennifer Orr and her daughter Sam were driving in the mountains of Chaffee County, Colorado, when their Jeep rolled 600 feet down a steep road.
Jennifer lost her life in the accident.
Also in the car was Bentley, their one-year-old Goldendoodle. Even through their deep sadness, the family kept hoping that Bentley had made it out alive.
Surviving alone in the mountains seemed almost impossible—but Bentley wasn’t ready to give up.
The Crash That Changed Everything
In 2017, Samantha Orr returned from studying abroad with a new plan: to get a dog.

Despite her family’s concerns, Sam brought home Bentley just a day after returning to the States. Bentley quickly became her adventurous companion, seamlessly fitting into their lives.
A year later, their world turned upside down.
During a trip on a challenging off-road trail, the Orr family’s Jeep crashed. Sam was hospitalized, and Bentley was missing.

The community sprang into action, posting flyers and organizing searches. The news of the accident spread quickly, and everyone hoped for Bentley’s safe return.
Sadly, some people tried to exploit the situation with false claims.
A Tough Search Followed By A Heartfelt Reunion
Nineteen days after the accident, a man named Joe spotted Bentley near the crash site. This sighting reignited hope in Sam.
Bentley had been surviving on rock mice and had stayed near the Jeep’s wreckage, waiting for his family.
Determined to find Bentley, Sam set out on a difficult hike to the accident site.

Despite her injuries, she climbed 11,000 feet, driven by her love for Bentley. When she finally saw him, Bentley was cautious and hesitant.

Using techniques she had read about, Sam slowly gained his trust and coaxed him towards her.
The reunion between Sam and Bentley was filled with emotion. Bentley was dehydrated and hungry but otherwise unhurt.
The trek back down the mountain was easier, and Bentley was finally on his way home to Kansas.
A New Chapter Begins
Once home, Bentley initially guarded his food, a sign of his traumatic experience. Over time, he began to relax and heal.

The Orr family, still mourning Jennifer, found comfort in Bentley’s return. They also welcomed a new puppy, Buena, named in memory of their ordeal.
“We’ve also added another fur baby to the family, “Buena”, his little sister named in honor of everything our family endured in Buena Vista, Colorado. I wish my mom were here today to meet little miss Buena, she would absolutely steal my mother’s heart. And I know for damn sure my mom would be so proud of Bentley and I.” shared Sam on her website.
Bentley now enjoys his life with Sam and Buena, bringing joy to their home despite the sorrow they have endured.
