Dog Spent Years Suffering In Shelter Until Her Story Took The Internet By Storm
For months, Sky waited in her kennel at a shelter in Stafford, Virginia, passed over again and again.
She had become the longest resident of the shelter, a sad reminder of how many dogs face long, uncertain waits for a family to adopt them.
Sky’s Struggle To Find A Home
Sky, a three-year-old dog, arrived at the Stafford County Animal Shelter in November 2022, and everyone believed she’d find her forever home quickly.
However, as days turned into weeks, then months, no one came to adopt her.

The shelter staff wrote in a Facebook post in February 2023, “Sky hasn’t received ONE inquiry since arriving to us November last year. No one has sent an email. No one has called about her. No one asks to visit with her.“
It was clear why Sky was overlooked: she wasn’t the perfect dog. She didn’t get along with other dogs, making it difficult to place her.
Yet, the shelter emphasized, “Sky is a wonderful companion and that she does great with all people and loves going for walks with their volunteers.“
A Miracle Moment With One Facebook Post
That same day, something incredible happened.
A special Facebook post about Sky went viral, attracting a flood of interest from potential adopters.

“The phone has been ringing off the hook all morning, a ton of messages and so many we can’t even get back to them,” Joe Bice, the shelter captain, said.
The excitement was undeniable, and within hours, the shelter posted the update: “UPDATE: SKY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!” Sky had finally found her family—Donna Crowder and her son, Joseph, who was autistic and needed a companion.
A Dream Come True For Sky
Donna was thrilled with her new furry friend.
“We have been in the market for a dog, and when they said she was good with kids, I said, ‘OK, I will make the drive.’“

The shelter couldn’t hide their joy, sharing another post to announce the news: “It happened!! It finally happened!!! Sky was adopted!!!”
Sky was now in a home without other pets and with a fenced-in backyard where she could thrive. Thanks to one viral post, the long wait for Sky had come to an end.
“Good luck Sky!!!” the shelter wished her.
