Virginia Rescuers Stunned By Pup Chained For Years, Decide To Step In

Surviving In Poor Conditions

Worthy Dog Rescue, a non-profit organization in Virginia, received a call about a dog named Maggie who desperately needed help.

For years, Maggie had lived in a dusty yard, tied up by a short rope. Her only shelter was a broken-down wooden box, and her health was as poor as her surroundings.

Maggie was severely malnourished, covered in flea bites, and had lost half her coat due to a skin infection. Despite her hardships, Maggie greeted her rescuer with a big smile and a wagging tail, displaying an incredible trust in humans.

“It was apparent that she loved people. She wagged her tail with joy at even the slightest bit of human attention,” wrote Worthy Dog Rescue on Facebook.

Joining The Shelter

Maggie was rescued from her dire conditions and taken to the shelter, where she received the medical care she desperately needed.

After a thorough checkup and medication, she began her journey to recovery. In no time, Maggie looked healthier and happier, ready for a new life.

Since Maggie was a senior dog and needed a home where she would be the only dog, the shelter staff worried it might take time to find her the right family.

However, they worked hard to ensure she was in her best shape, both physically and emotionally, to attract potential adopters.

In the loving environment of the shelter, Maggie finally experienced what it meant to be cared for.

With the help of several foster families, she learned leash skills, got more comfortable around other dogs, and began to understand what it was like to be part of a family.

A New Home

Maggie’s story caught the eye of a woman scrolling through the shelter’s website.

Although she had initially applied to foster a different dog, something about Maggie’s story resonated with her, and she knew that Maggie was the one for her.

“[It] was a life-changing event for Maggie. [Her new mom] offered an only-dog home and had a flexible schedule to give her the time and attention she needed,” Worthy Dog Rescue shared.

Maggie, once tied up and alone, now had a life filled with love, fun, and attention. At first, she was a bit nervous around other dogs, but with time, her confidence grew. Now, she enjoys the company of friends, both human and canine.

“I didn’t think I could love another dog after putting my Lab down at nearly 13 years old. But we are absolutely in love with this girl and can’t imagine our lives without her,” Maggie’s new mom shared.
