After Months Missing, Dog Escapes Euthanasia And Reunites With Her Mom

Nic Bilbao adored her dogs, spending every day with them on their farm.

Life was perfect until one of her beloved pups, Zasha, suddenly went missing.

One Day, Zasha Went Missing

Before finding her forever home, Zasha had been shuffled between three different homes in just a few days. But with Nic, everything changed. The two became inseparable.

“Her and I had this weird bond between us. She was just such a goofy, fun-loving dog who no one cared to understand,” Nic shared with The Dodo.

Zasha was thrilled with her new life, filled with love, two canine siblings named Anubis and Tipsy, and a mom who adored her. She often showed her affection with sweet little kisses and constant tail wags.

But one day, Zasha disappeared.

Nic searched everywhere, growing more desperate with each passing day, but Zasha was nowhere to be found. Nic was devastated.

“When she went missing, I was absolutely terrified. I felt really broken,” she admitted, regretting not having had Zasha microchipped.

Eight months passed, and Nic began to come to terms with Zasha’s absence, although the pain remained. Anubis and Tipsy did their best to comfort her, but the void Zasha left was hard to fill.

A Miraculous Find Online

One day, while scrolling through Facebook, Nic’s heart skipped a beat. She came across a photo posted by The Dogslanding House, a rescue in Cedar Creek, Texas.

The dog in the picture looked exactly like Zasha. Nic immediately commented, sharing photos of Zasha and hoping for a miracle.

The rescue staff quickly realized that the dog in the photo was indeed Zasha.

Nic learned that Zasha had narrowly escaped euthanasia at a high-kill shelter, thanks to the rescue’s intervention just a day before her scheduled death.

Zasha had spent six months at the rescue, where the staff had cared for her, trying to find her a new home.

“We found what we thought was an amazing family, decided that it was not going to work out,” said Danielle, a staff member at the rescue.

It was during Zasha’s return trip to the rescue that Nic saw her photo and reached out.

Zasha And Nic’s Reunion

The staff at the rescue were thrilled by Zasha’s story and eagerly awaited the reunion.

Nic, however, was filled with anxiety as she drove to the rescue, wondering if Zasha would recognize her after all this time.

“When I pulled up, my heart absolutely broke. I couldn’t breathe. My anxiety was so high because I was just sitting there thinking, like, I lost my dog and no one gets their dog after several months. You don’t think it’s gonna happen,” Nic recalled.

As Nic walked through the gate, Zasha spotted her. The pup approached cautiously at first, but as soon as she sniffed Nic, her tail began to wag furiously. She had found her mom again.

Overwhelmed with joy, Zasha leaped into Nic’s arms, covering her in kisses.

“She got so excited and was all over me. Oh, it was such a heartfelt moment. I could not stop crying. I never thought I would see Zasha again,” Nic said, tears of joy streaming down her face.

Zasha said her goodbyes to the rescue staff and headed home to San Marcos with Nic, where she was welcomed back with open arms by her furry siblings.

Nic feels incredibly lucky to have Zasha back and will forever be grateful to The Dogslanding House for saving her beloved dog’s life.
