Abused Dog Covered In Bite Wounds Overcomes Trauma Thanks To His New Loving Mom
Bubby, a stray from California, was covered in bite wounds and had never known how to be a dog.
He had suffered a lifetime of cruelty, used as a bait dog, until compassionate rescuers stepped in to change his story.
But Bubby’s road to recovery wouldn’t be easy. He needed someone willing to give him endless time, care, and patience.
Fortunately, the perfect person was just waiting to meet him!
A Tough Start For Bubby
Bubby was rescued as a stray and taken to Stanislaus Shelter Friends, where he stayed for two months.
Despite his wounds and past as a bait dog, he ended up on the euthanasia list before South County Tail Waggers stepped in to save him.
When Katharine adopted him, Bubby was still shut down and unsure how to behave around people.
The moment he entered her home, he curled up in his bed and slept for 24 hours straight.
It was clear he needed time to adjust to the love and care Katharine was ready to provide.
As a park ranger at Pinnacles National Park in California, Katharine gave Bubby not only affection but also the freedom to explore the beauty of nature.
In time, Bubby began to bond with his housemates and show his gentle nature.
To comfort himself, he developed an adorable habit of carrying his blanket around the house each morning.

“I know he still remembers his past because sometimes it comes back to haunt him and he needs extra comfort and reassurance; but I also know that he is truly so happy and fulfilled and forgiving that whatever happened before I got him doesn’t matter anymore,” Katharine wrote on Instagram. “He knows he is safe now and I’ll never ever let anyone hurt him again,” she continued.
Healing Through Love And Companionship
Bubby’s recovery took a beautiful turn when Katharine adopted Simon, another dog with a history of abuse. Together, they became a source of comfort and understanding for one another.
Bubby transformed completely, both emotionally and physically.
“He is completely unrecognizable from the dog I first met – not just physically, but emotionally too. He went from being depressed and suspicious to being the cheeky, happy, zoomie boy that he is today,” Katharine shared.
Through Instagram videos, Katharine documented Bubby’s inspiring journey from despair to becoming a joyful, loving companion.

Once a victim of cruelty, Bubby is now a confident, affectionate dog who embraces every aspect of his new life with joy.
