Dog Too Scared To Look His New Parents In The Eyes Slowly Realizes He Is Safe
Dogs, like humans, feel joy and pain, yet they often face neglect without the support they need to heal.
Fortunately, one pup’s journey from fear to love is a testament to the power of kindness.
Walt’s Frightening Start
After a long search for a foster dog, Kelly never expected to meet Walt, a dog who had endured deep trauma.
When they picked him up, he was terrified and wouldn’t even make eye contact.
“When we picked him up, he was just so afraid. He wouldn’t even make eye contact with us in the car. Someone had failed him somewhere along the way,” Kelly explained to The Dodo.
Walt’s past had clearly shaken him, leaving him unsure of how to behave in his new home.
Even after being given a warm bed, he refused to sleep on it, preferring to stay on the floor, unable to understand the love being offered.
He was so fearful that when Kelly touched him, he cowered, expecting harm.
Time And Love Begin To Heal
Kelly didn’t give up on Walt. She knew he needed time to heal in a safe space. Slowly, Walt began to trust his new home.
“What made me know that he knew he was safe here – I would be sitting on the sofa watching TV, and he would come in and put his head under my hand, as if to say, ‘Love me.’ Whereas he didn’t even know what that was when we first took him here,” Kelly said.
Walt’s transformation continued as he grew more comfortable with Kelly. He started playing and inventing his own games, encouraging Kelly to interact with him.
He even began running zoomies in the yard, kicking up grass in joy, something that seemed impossible in the beginning.
Walt also began to connect with Kelly’s other dog, and despite their size difference, the two found their rhythm together.
It was clear Walt was finally thriving in a loving environment, something he had never known before.
Walt’s New Life
Kelly marveled at the change in Walt.
“It has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my entire life. To be able to take a dog out of a really bad situation and give them what they deserve. They don’t deserve anything other than humans to love them,” she shared.
Now, Walt is a completely different dog. He went from avoiding eye contact to seeking love and attention from Kelly. His fear has been replaced with trust, and he is enjoying life to the fullest.
Thanks to Kelly’s dedication, Walt is finally the happy, healthy dog he always deserved to be.
