Shut Down Pup Completely Transforms In Just Days Thanks To A Loving Foster Home
Baton’s incredible story proves how quickly a dog’s life can change with the right care and affection.
At just 9 months old, this Black Mouth Cur and Hound mix arrived at the shelter withdrawn and terrified, but her transformation in a foster home was nothing short of miraculous.
Love Truly Heals
When Baton first arrived at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, North Carolina, she was completely “shut down.”
Brooke Fornea, the shelter’s director of marketing and guest experience, shared with Newsweek, “Baton was shut down in the shelter; she would never look at you and didn’t enjoy walks, playgroups, or enrichment items like puzzle treats.“
Baton’s fear was overwhelming. She would close her eyes, hide under bushes during walks, and avoid direct eye contact with anyone.
The shelter staff knew that a loving foster home could provide the safe space she needed to heal from her trauma.
Thankfully, Baton was placed with a foster family who gave her just that.
Baton Blossoms In Foster Care
Within days of arriving in her foster home, Baton began to transform. The once fearful pup discovered the joy of simple pleasures like walks, treats, and cuddles in her soft, warm bed.
“She is learning people are pretty great — and this thing they call a bed is AMAZING,” the shelter wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Baton’s foster family has helped her shed her shy demeanor and embrace life again.
“She has really come out of her shell and is a much happier dog. We are so grateful to people who open their homes and hearts to homeless animals like Baton,” said Fornea.
Baton now enjoys her daily routine, feeling safe and loved in the comfort of her foster home.
Searching For A Forever Home
While Baton has made remarkable progress, she is still looking for a permanent family to continue her journey of healing.
As Fornea explained, “Foster homes make all the difference in the world for an animal who finds themselves in a shelter. It provides them with a comfortable routine and gives them time to decompress and receive comfort. They learn that people can be kind and gentle. We also hear from our fosters that it brings joy into their lives, so it is a win-win.“
The shelter describes Baton as a sweet but initially shy pup, who needs a patient home where she can continue to blossom.
With her love for pup cups, gentle walks, and being the little spoon at bedtime, Baton will quickly win over anyone’s heart.
“Though she is definitely shy when first meeting new people, Baton is a sweet pup who will eventually become your best friend and most loyal companion,” the shelter wrote.
According to the website, Baton has luckily been adopted, and we hope she now lives her best life in a loving home.
