Heartbroken Dogs Struggled To Cope After Their Owner's Passing

Losing a beloved owner can leave dogs devastated, struggling to cope with their grief.

In Nuevo, California, two heartbroken dogs, Debby and Gidget, were lost in sorrow until compassionate rescuers arrived to offer them a new beginning.

A Heartbreaking Scene

A woman named Doreen reached out to Hope For Paws for help after her friend’s dogs, Debby and Gidget, were left behind following her death.

Though Doreen wanted to help, the dogs were too frightened and shy to approach her.

Katie McKittrick and Alex Babcock from Hope For Paws made a two-hour trip from Los Angeles to the dogs’ location.

When they arrived, Doreen explained that no matter what she tried—whether offering food or treats—the dogs wouldn’t come out while she was nearby.

They waited until she left before cautiously retrieving the food.

The rescuers understood that the dogs were still deeply mourning.

Their reluctance to trust anyone was a natural response to their loss.

When Katie and Alex finally entered the home, they found Debby and Gidget trembling and huddled together on the couch, visibly terrified.

With slow, gentle movements, Katie managed to secure the dogs using a soft snare, and they were carefully placed in crates and brought to safety.

Doreen was beyond grateful to the rescue team for saving the lives of these grieving pups.

Rebuilding Trust And Confidence

Once the dogs were safe, they were transferred to the care of L.A. Animal Rescue, where they would stay until finding a forever home.

Initially, Debby and Gidget were skittish and avoided interactions, but over time, they began to open up.

As their personalities emerged, it became clear that Gidget was the more confident of the two.

She took on the role of leader, while Debby relied on her sister for comfort and support. Gidget’s protective nature helped Debby feel secure in their new environment.

Gidget is the more protective of the pair. She is the leader of the pack and likes to take charge. She is more vocal and hands on. She is very sweet and affectionate and loves to give kisses and cuddle once she gets to know you,” shared the Hope For Paws team.

Months after being placed in foster care, Debby and Gidget had completely transformed.

The once frightened dogs became loving, affectionate companions, eagerly waiting for their chance to find a forever family.

It’s clear that when the time is right, these two will bring joy and love to their new homes.
