Shelter Staff Finds A Tearful Letter Left By Kids Beside Surrendered Dog

When the team at Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina met Rhoudy, he seemed like just another sweet pup arriving at the shelter.

But then they noticed a small piece of paper tucked in with his belongings—and everything changed.

It was a note, written by a child, along with a hand-drawn picture of Rhoudy. And the words brought tears to everyone’s eyes.

“We Love You, Rhoudy”

The message was short but powerful. A simple, heartfelt goodbye from a child who clearly loved Rhoudy deeply:

“We love you Rhoudy. I will miss you, Rhoudy. But you’re going home! And I hope your people love you as much as I do.”

Though no one knew the full story behind Rhoudy’s surrender, it was clear that saying goodbye had been incredibly hard for his family—especially the children.

The shelter tried to learn more, but they couldn’t reach his previous family.

So instead, they decided to respond to the note with one of their own, posting it on Facebook in hopes that the message might reach Rhoudy’s former little humans.

“We know how hard it was to say goodbye. But you were so brave and so strong. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

Their reply quickly went viral, with people across the country touched by the bond between a child and their dog.

A New Chapter For Rhoudy

Now safe at the shelter, Rhoudy is doing well. He goes on walks, plays with toys (especially the ones left by his previous family), and gets tons of love from the shelter staff.

Still, everyone at Greenville Humane Society knows he’s ready for a forever home.

Rhoudy is full of energy, playful, and loves being around other dogs. He’s described as a “rough and tumble kind of guy” who would thrive in a home where he can stay active and get plenty of attention.
