Mama Great Dane Shatters Expectations With 21 Puppies In 27 Hours

Tanya Dubbs from Pocahontas, Virginian, recently witnessed an extraordinary event: her two-year-old Great Dane, Namine, giving birth.

But her story is even more remarkable because of her dog, who made headlines by giving birth to an astounding 21 puppies over 27 hours.

Namine Gave Birth To One Of The Largest Litters Ever

In March, Tanya and her family were shocked when Namine’s litter kept growing beyond their expectations.

Although Great Danes are known for having larger litters, Tanya anticipated around 13 to 14 puppies at most. However, as the hours passed, the number of puppies kept increasing, finally totaling 21 after a grueling 27-hour labor.

Sadly, two of the puppies did not survive, leaving Namine with 19 healthy pups.

Most of these newborns weighed over a pound, except for two slightly smaller ones. With such a large litter, Tanya had to ensure all puppies were adequately fed, supplementing with bottles when necessary.

While this is one of the largest litters recorded, the world record is still held by a Neapolitan Mastiff named Tia, who gave birth to 24 puppies in one litter.

Namine Has Come A Long Way

Namine’s story is not just about her remarkable litter; it’s also about her incredible resilience.

A year before, Namine escaped from home with her sibling, Malificent, and was hit by a truck, injuring her back and eye.

Tanya shared her distress that night, posting, “My sweet Namine and Malificent escaped this evening. Malificent came back… Namine has not. I was told that she got hit by a car.”

Fortunately, Namine was found and treated within 16 hours, suffering no life-threatening injuries. Her recovery and subsequent pregnancy highlight her strength and determination.

She Keeps On Enjoying The Good Life With Her Loving Family

Now that Namine’s puppies are weaned, Tanya plans to sell them and donate a portion of the proceeds to Tazewell County Animal Shelter in Bluefield, Virginia.

Despite the puppies leaving, Namine will continue to enjoy the love and companionship of her human family and dog siblings.

Namine’s affectionate nature shines through in her interactions with her family. Like all Great Danes, she is a gentle giant, acting as a loving nanny to children and showering her loved ones with affection.
