Mama Dog Forced To Give Birth In Pouring Rain Finally Finds Safety With Her Babies

During a stormy weekend in Houston, a Basset Hound gave birth alone on the street, cold and covered in fleas.
Her situation was heartbreaking—until a kind rescuer stepped in and changed everything.

So when a local shop owner called to report a dog giving birth outside during a storm, Caitlin didn’t think twice. But what she saw when she arrived broke her heart.
A poor Basset Hound had delivered her puppies on the wet ground, right in front of the store.

The weekend had been full of storms, and when employees showed up on Monday morning, they found the mama dog and her newborns cold, dirty, and in terrible shape.
Heartbreak And Hope
At first, Caitlin saw eight tiny pups with their exhausted mother.
But she later shared in another TikTok video that the mama, now named Bentley, had originally given birth to eleven puppies. Sadly, three didn’t survive the storm.

Determined to help the rest, Caitlin gently picked them up, one by one, and carried them to her car.
Once home, she gave Bentley and her pups a warm bath to remove the fleas that were covering their bodies. Then she wrapped them in blankets and settled them into a soft, clean bed.
It was a small comfort after all they’d been through. Seeing them finally rest brought Caitlin some peace.

Still, the pain wasn’t over. In the days that followed, one more puppy passed away.
Caitlin was heartbroken again, but she didn’t give up. She focused all her love and care on the surviving puppies, and slowly, they began to grow stronger.
A Brighter Tomorrow
After days of rain, a bit of sunshine finally came into their lives. Bentley and her remaining pups—named Ford, Lincoln, Mustang, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, and Rover—began to thrive.
Thanks to Caitlin’s dedication, they were now safe, warm, and headed toward a better future.
When Caitlin shared their story on TikTok, one video from May 8, 2024, touched thousands and went viral. Viewers were moved by the mama’s love and Caitlin’s kindness.
@caitiesfosterfam This poor mama gave birth this weekend alone, on the streets, in the pouring rain. She sought out shelter anywhere she could, and she found her way into a shop. When the workers got there this morning, they saw her with her newborns. They made a space for her to rest with her babies while they reached out to rescues. That’s when I heard about her and rushed that way. The eight surviving puppies are hanging in there. They’re active and nursing. But they were cold and covered in fleas when I got them. We are fighting an uphill battle for sure. There are 5 boys and 3 girls. The smallest girl is about half the size of her littermates and appears much weaker. I’ll continue to give her the best chance, but odds aren’t on her side. It’s going to be tough for all of these babies, but their mama has fought so hard for their survival. So now we’re all here to help them. It’s all up from here. I just updated our rescue Amazon wishlist to include things we need for mama and her babies. Direct link in bio! One person wrote, “Having her babies and her with fleas and yet she is still trying to protect them 😭❤️ hoping they all get bigger and stronger.”
Another said, “You are an absolute saint. I’m moving to Houston soon and I really really would love to join your organization and help you! You are an angel.”
And a third simply added, “Thank you for helping ❤️”
Bentley was brave. Her puppies were fighters. But it was Caitlin—and the shop staff who spotted them—who made their new beginning possible.
Because of their compassion, this little family now has a chance to live the life they deserve.
