Loving And Loyal Pup Surrendered To A Shelter Dreams Of A Family Who Won’t Let Him Down

Loyal Pup Abandoned Twice Still Hopes For A Family To Love Forever

A dog’s first home should be its last, but for Drake, his journey has been filled with heartbreak.

Surrendered twice, he still holds onto hope for a family that will never let him go.

Saved From Certain Euthanasia

When Drake was surrendered to Prince George’s County Animal Shelter in Maryland, the staff immediately showered him with love to ease his confusion and pain.

Ilona, a shelter volunteer and experienced foster, recalls her first impression of Drake.

The first thing that caught my eye about him was how he looks. He’s got that big old head and a big grin and this muscly little body,” Ilona shared with GeoBeats Animals.

Drake’s affectionate personality shone despite his circumstances. He greeted everyone with a wagging tail and a warm smile.

Unfortunately, the county’s ban on owning Pit Bulls made it impossible for anyone local to adopt him. As the shelter grew overcrowded, Drake faced the risk of euthanasia.

A shelter worker refused to let that happen and contacted Vindicated Pit Bull Rescue, who stepped in to save Drake.

After spending time with temporary fosters, the sweet pup found his way to a full-time foster home.

A New Chance With A Foster Family

Drake thought his luck had changed when an adopter came forward. But when the family’s other dog didn’t accept him, he was returned to the rescue after just three weeks.

This rejection left Drake anxious and in need of a stable, loving home to help him recover emotionally.

Ilona received a call from the rescue asking if she could foster Drake. Despite having a baby and a dog of her own, she and her husband decided to open their hearts and home to him.

Drake arrived at Ilona’s home feeling under-socialized and unsure of his surroundings.

The rescue enlisted a trainer from Dog Latin Dog Training and Behavior Consulting to help address his anxiety and support his adjustment.

With love and patience, Drake began to thrive. He bonded with the family’s dog, Honey Pie, learning from her and gaining confidence with each day.

The affectionate pup also formed a special connection with Ilona’s baby.

He really loves my husband, which is great. Then he loves our baby so much. They have an incredible bond,” Ilona said.

Drake enjoys sitting under his foster sister’s high chair, patiently waiting for treats she shares with him.

The Pup Hopes To Find His Forever Family

In November 2023, Drake was transferred to Laila’s Legacy Animal Rescue but remained under Ilona’s care.

Her family cherishes their time with him, and Ilona reflects on how fostering Drake has made her a better person and foster mom.

Drake, I love every moment with you,” she said.

Ilona and her husband plan to continue fostering dogs in need, hoping Drake finds his forever family soon.

Drake’s future family will gain an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion who has saved his best kisses and love just for them.
