Stranded Dog Rescued From Cliff Ends Up Doing Something Amazing For His Foster Parents

Dog Rescued From Cliff Helps His Foster Family Through Heartbreaking Loss

While Daniele, a rescuer at Jersey Pits in New Jersey, was working at the shelter, she overheard that animal control had found a dog stranded on a cliff nearby.

Wasting no time, Daniele ran straight to the location and began climbing up to find the lost dog.

When she finally spotted the frightened pup, she called to him, trying to coax him down, but the dog wouldn’t respond. She could tell he was scared, shaking uncontrollably and retreating further toward the ledge whenever she tried to approach him.

She knew it would be a tough rescue.

A Tense Rescue Mission

Determined, Daniele moved closer up the dangerous hill, but even then, the pit bull refused to approach her.

He was so disconnected, he was shaking like a leaf. Every time I would get near him he would actually back up more. So he was getting closer to the ledge,” Daniele explained to The Dodo.

Every step closer pushed the dog closer to the cliff’s edge, but she managed to corner him just in time.

Realizing she needed help, Daniele called animal control for backup.

Soon, they arrived, and with teamwork, they safely placed a pole around the dog and guided him down to safety. From there, he was taken to the animal control facility for care.

Adjusting To Shelter Life

At the shelter, the pit bull remained deeply unsettled, refusing to engage with anyone and trembling in his kennel.

With no microchip found, the staff put him on the mandatory seven-day hold for stray animals. Daniele, however, visited him daily, gently helping him adjust to his new surroundings.

Slowly but surely, the dog began to trust her, even showing affection by giving her hugs during their daily walks.

After the waiting period ended, the pup needed a foster home, and luckily, a couple stepped forward to take him in.

Finding His New Home

The couple named him Benny, but the transition wasn’t easy.

He threw himself everywhere. He was energetic. We noticed right away that he had really bad separation anxiety,” recalled Jessica, Benny’s foster mom.

Their other dog, Sky, was initially baffled by Benny’s behavior, as he was unfamiliar with the rules of living in a home.

But over time, the two dogs grew closer, often curling up together for naps.

A Heartbreaking Turn

Sadly, Sky’s health began to decline, and a visit to the vet revealed she had bone cancer or osteosarcoma.

Benny seemed to sense the change and, in his own way, tried to lift the family’s spirits during this challenging time.

He just gave us little laughs. His high energy changed a little bit, because I think he was starting to understand that Sky was going through something very difficult,” Veron, Benny’s foster dad, said.

After Sky’s passing, Benny remained a source of comfort for his grieving family, reminding them to keep going and find joy despite the pain. It soon became clear Benny was more than a temporary guest—he was home.

A New Beginning

Now a permanent member of the family, Benny brought much-needed joy and laughter during their difficult time.

We are so happy that he came at the right opportunity. We feel like that was part of Sky’s cosmic energy. All the stars aligned for him to be with us during this difficult time,” Jessica said.

Benny’s journey from a cliffside rescue to becoming a vital part of his family’s healing is truly remarkable.
