Golden Retriever Puppy Born With One-Of-A-Kind Coat Color Catches Everyone’s Eye

Something truly unexpected happened in Pensacola, Florida, when a sweet Golden Retriever mom welcomed a litter of puppies into the world.
While most of her babies were born with the usual golden coats, there was one tiny pup who stood out from the rest—and not just a little!
A Colorful Surprise In A Golden Retriever Litter
At first, breeders Carole and Greg DeBruler from Golden Treasures Kennel didn’t notice anything unusual.

But as they looked more closely, they were stunned to see one puppy covered in a deep green tint.
In all their 17 years of raising light-colored Goldens, they’d seen the occasional slight green hue—but never anything like this.

They tried cleaning her fur, thinking the color might wash off. The mom gave her lots of licks, and Carole gave her a few baths, but the green stayed.
Over time, her coat faded from dark green to a bright lime shade, making her even more unique. They named her Shamrock.
Going Viral For Her One-Of-A-Kind Color
Carole decided to share Shamrock’s story on their TikTok account, @living_the_golden_life.
In a short video, she showed Shamrock nursing with her littermates and explained what made her special. The video quickly gained attention, and people everywhere were amazed by this rare pup.

As it turns out, Shamrock’s green coat came from a pigment called biliverdin.
Sometimes, this pigment, found in bile, can stain a puppy’s fur while they’re still in the womb. It’s very rare, but it made Shamrock a star.
“I’m just so excited to share Shamrock with the world,” Carole said to People. “She was a lucky dog!”
She continued posting updates, and Shamrock became a favorite among followers.
A Happy Ending For A Special Pup
As weeks passed, Shamrock’s green coat slowly faded, leaving behind the soft golden fur typical of her breed. But even without the green, she remained just as special.

Thanks to all the attention she received, Shamrock was the first of her litter to find a forever home.
A retired gentleman instantly fell in love with her and promised to make her the center of his world.
“She’s so loved now, and she’s going to be so loved in the future —and that makes me happy” Carole shared.
