Stray Dog Gratefully Hugs Rescuer After Being Saved From Highway

Many stray dogs face dangerous situations every day. Sadly, not everyone stops to help them.

But the story of a dog named Wags reminds us that kindness still exists in this world.

He was dangerously walking along the highway when 2 kind-hearted girls stopped immediately to help.

A Scary Moment On The Highway

It was just a regular day for Evie and Leslie Benson. They were driving home after shopping when they spotted something small and brown on the highway.

As they got closer, they realized it was a stray dog. Cars zoomed past, nearly hitting him.

Evie and Leslie knew they had to act quickly to save him.

Evie didn’t think twice; she jumped from the car and scooped up the dog in a heroic rescue!

The Grateful Dog Got A New Name And New Start

As soon as he was safe, the little dog began to wag his tail. He was tired, hungry, and dirty, but he was also very thankful.

Evie held him, and he fell asleep in her lap, making her tear up with joy.

According to The Dodo, Evie shared: “I was heartbroken just thinking about what this dog has been through and how scared and alone he felt. (...) The car ride was a breeze. Eventually, he fell asleep in my hands and that’s when I started crying. I wanted him to know he was finally safe.”

She knew she had to call him “Wags” because of his happy tail.

Evie and Leslie brought Wags to the Goochland County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center for care. The shelter staff took great care of him, helping him get stronger and showing him lots of love.

A Joyful Reunion The Next Day

The next day, Evie and Leslie returned to the shelter to check on Wags. They wondered if he would remember them.

To their surprise, as soon as Wags saw Evie, he ran to her and jumped into her arms, cuddling close.

This touching reunion showed just how much Wags appreciated being rescued. And Evie and Leslie were overjoyed to see him doing well.

Healing And Looking Forward To A Bright Future

Wags is still getting better at the shelter. The staff there are making sure he receives all the love and medical care he needs before he finds his forever home.

“He is extremely emaciated, but is all tail wags and love,” said the shelter team. They promised to keep caring for him until he is ready to be adopted.

We all hope that Wags will soon find a loving family and never have to face dangerous roads again!
