Devoted Dog Spends 10 Days Outside Hospital Hoping For Deceased Owner’s Return

There’s nothing more heartbreaking than losing the person you love most in the world. Dogs, our loyal companions, feel this pain deeply when their owners pass away.

In Compton, California, a one-year-old dog experienced such heartache. She couldn’t accept that her owner wouldn’t return from the emergency room where she last saw him.

This faithful pup waited for days, braving all kinds of weather, hoping to see his familiar face again.

Unwavering Loyalty

The staff at Martin Luther King Hospital witnessed an extraordinary bond between a man and his dog.

When the man, critically ill, was brought in by ambulance, his devoted dog followed him all the way to the hospital entrance. Determined to stay by his side, she waited at the emergency room doors.

Unfortunately, security kept her from entering. Unaware that her owner had passed away, the dog stayed outside for ten days, without food or shelter. She watched every person who came out, hoping it would be her beloved owner.

Seeing her plight, the hospital staff tried to help, but she wouldn’t let them approach. Realizing she needed more help, they contacted Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California.

Rescue Mission

Suzette Hall immediately responded to the call for help.

“This sweet baby girl was still there waiting even through the hurricane. She is heartbroken, you can see it in her eyes… so incredibly loyal,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

Hall set a humane trap with treats to capture the dog, who eventually walked in.

Even during the rescue, Hall could see the sadness in her eyes. Inside the trap, the dog still looked toward the emergency room, hoping to see her owner one last time.

Hall provided comfort to the grieving dog and took her to Camino Pet Hospital for a checkup.

Ready For A New Life

After receiving care at the hospital, the dog, now named Hilary (after the hurricane she endured), moved to a loving foster home.

“She’s still mourning,” Hall said. “But we’re going to find her the perfect home. She just needs to heal first.” Hall shared with The Dodo.

In her foster home, Hilary started to open up. She began socializing with people and other dogs, slowly adjusting to her new life.

“She loves people and other dogs! She’s about 1 and is just over 12lbs. She is a smart girl and should be a lot of fun to train. She is still a bit nervous on walks, but every day is getting better and better,” Laura shared.

We are confident that Hilary will soon find a forever family and begin a new chapter filled with love and joy.
