Brave Rescuers Save Homeless Dog Wrapped In Dirty Blanket

Nathalie and Donna are two kind souls who dedicate their lives to saving dogs every day.

Sometimes they even save more than expected, like the day they rescued Dodie from homelessness and offered her a new life.

A Casual Morning Turns Into A Rescue Mission

It was just another morning for Donna Lochmann, an experienced rescuer from Stray Rescue of St. Louis. She had a new rescue task on her schedule, a job filled with unexpected dangers but one she tackled with heart and passion.

“A dog awaits and needs our help!” Donna declared after receiving an emergency call for a medical intervention.

Her coworker, Natalie Thompson, immediately jumped into the passenger seat, ready to save another puppy.

Little did they know, this day would take an unexpected turn.

One More Rescue Mission On The Agenda

As Donna sped towards their destination, Natalie suddenly noticed something small and brown on a side street.

“I just saw something small and brown hanging out on a side street,” Donna said to Natalie, who agreed it might be another dog in need.

They decided it was best to return for the puppy after their primary mission. The medical intervention was quick and successful, and soon they were ready to embark on a new rescue mission.

Returning to the spot, they couldn’t initially find the puppy.

“I was so devastated at that one moment,” Natalie later admitted.

But her sharp senses led her to an alleyway, where she spotted a scared, skinny dog rushing away.

Natalie followed the dog to an abandoned multi-floor building, one of the scariest places she had ever visited. Determined, she climbed the unstable stairs to the second floor, where she found a little puppy in a blanket, trying to keep warm from the cold place she was surviving in.

Rescuing Dodie

Natalie quickly realized she didn’t have a slip lead.

“I only had one slip lead with me, and it was on the dog in the Jeep,” Donna told The Dodo.

After retrieving the slip lead, she returned to find the puppy had moved. She spotted the dog outside, sitting in an open field.

Offering Vienna sausages, she gained the pup’s trust and named her “Dodie” for her cute doll-like face. With the pup now trusting her, it was easy to put a leash on and get her into the Jeep.

Dodie Is Now Safe And Healthy

The two rescuers brought Dodie to the vet.

Despite being underweight, her health was surprisingly good. She was placed on a strict feeding schedule, with small portions given several times a day.

Dodie is now safe in a foster home, wrapped in a warm blanket, surrounded by love from her foster mom Nicolina, and the dedicated volunteers at the foster home.
