This Adorable Pup Finally Finds Happiness On The Road After 372 Days At A Shelter

Some dogs, like Major, have to wait a bit longer to find their forever homes.

After spending over a year at a shelter, Major finally met his perfect human, and all his previous days of hopeful waiting faded into joy.

Major And His Brother Escaped Euthanasia

Before finding fame as the sweetheart of the Naperville Area Humane Society, Major and his brother Hilo faced a grim future at a local shelter in Quincy, Illinois.

They were rescued just in time, avoiding being euthanized thanks to the timely intervention of the NAHS staff.

Known for their wonderful and quirky spirits, Major and Hilo quickly became favorites at the shelter, charming everyone with their sociable and playful nature.

No One Understands Why He Still Hasn’t Been Adopted

As Major and Hilo approached one year at the NAHS, the staff couldn’t understand why these delightful dogs hadn’t been adopted.

“Unfortunately, I think that when [an animal] spends too long at a shelter, people tend to think there is something wrong with him or her. I think he fell into that stigma.” Kristen Funk, NAHS executive director, told The Dodo.

In an effort to showcase their virtues, the shelter shared a video of the dogs, highlighting their friendly temperaments and the love they had to offer, as described by the staff and volunteers who adored them.

Despite his friendly nature and good manners, Major was continuously overlooked by potential adopters.

His intelligence and loving nature were praised by volunteers like Winston and Jane, who were baffled that such a perfect dog had not yet found a home.

The Perfect Match Arrived

Then, on a Wednesday, 372 days after Major first arrived at the shelter, his life changed.

Jose, a semi-trailer truck driver mourning the loss of his previous dog, walked into NAHS.

It was clear from their first meeting that Major was the right dog for Jose.

The shelter staff arranged a heartfelt farewell, and Major excitedly jumped into Jose’s truck, ready to start his new life.

A New Life on the Road

Major’s new adventures with Jose began immediately. No longer confined to the shelter, he embraced his new life on the road.

The NAHS soon received updates from Jose, sharing that Major was thriving in his new environment, enjoying snuggles and confidently navigating his new surroundings.

He has adapted wonderfully to life with Jose, exploring new landscapes from mountains to cities every day from the truck’s passenger seat.

Their stops at scenic spots let Major stretch his legs and indulge his curiosity.

As they travel, Major often rests his head near Jose, watching the world zip by. At night, they share the cabin, with Major snuggling close, solidifying their bond.

Every day brings a new adventure, and Major’s ever-wagging tail shows just how much he loves his new, exciting life on the road.
