A peaceful walk through the countryside of Hudson, Wisconsin, took an unexpected turn when a kind passerby spotted something unusual among the fallen leaves.

A small, curled-up shape blended into the autumn scenery, barely noticeable at first. But as they looked closer, they realized—it was a dog, shivering in the cold.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

The pup, later named Brutus, was lying motionless, his frail body barely holding on. With no food, no shelter, and the freezing air around him, he had wrapped himself in leaves in a desperate attempt to stay warm.

Worried for his safety, the kind rescuer quickly called Hudson Animal Control.

Rescuers arrived as fast as they could, unsure of how long Brutus had been out there. One thing was clear: this pup needed urgent help.

Brutus was severely malnourished, his ribs visible beneath his thin fur. Even more concerning, he was partially blind.

But the most heartbreaking detail was the snug collar around his neck—a sign that he once had a home, yet somehow ended up abandoned in such a fragile state.

A Foster Home Was Quickly Found

Rescuers wasted no time in getting Brutus warm and fed. They shared his story online, hoping someone would step forward to give him a second chance.

But before long, one of the staff members at Ruff Start Rescue fell in love with him and offered to foster him.

Brutus quickly settled into his foster home, where he received careful medical attention and plenty of love.

His meals were tracked to help him gain weight, and he found comfort in the warmth of his new home—especially on his favorite heating pad.
