Chained Dog Left Behind At Abandoned House Ecstatic When Rescuers Save Him From Freezing Cold
In the freezing winter of St. Louis, a dog was abandoned and chained behind an old house, left to suffer in the cold.
Rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis found him in time and gave him a new chance at life.
Rescue Team Stumbles Upon Abandoned Soul
While searching for distressed animals in the harsh January cold, the Stray Rescue of St. Louis team arrived at an abandoned house.
To their shock, they discovered a dog chained to a doghouse, lying on the freezing grass and shivering in the bitter wind.
It was clear that this dog had once been a cherished family member, but now, he was left alone, with no water and no warmth.
“The cold wind howled and the cold hurt after being outside for just a few moments. The callousness of this act alone gives us chills,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote on their Facebook page.
Donna Lochmann, one of the compassionate SRSL rescuers, was heartbroken to see this poor dog abandoned in such a manner.
“Why someone felt you deserved to suffer with that huge chain is one of the world’s greatest mysteries. You’re free,” SRSL wrote.
The dog was later named Eskimo Joe, and when the rescuers approached him, he greeted them with a wagging tail, hopeful and trusting.
Freedom Ride To A Better Life
Eskimo Joe had clung to life through unimaginable hardships, but with his rescuers’ help, his suffering was over.
After using bolt cutters to free him from the chain, Donna gently scooped him up and placed him into her warm Jeep for the ride to safety.
“He stared at Donna during his freedom ride and loved the heated seats,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote, capturing the simple joy of this moment.
A New Beginning At The Foster Home
Eskimo Joe’s journey to recovery continued as he was taken to the veterinary team for a thorough check-up.
While he tested positive for heartworm, it was treatable with the proper medication.
Despite his past, Eskimo Joe was incredibly gentle and sweet, which made him an easy fit for a loving foster home.
His foster mom described him as “the most gentle soul I have ever met. He is crate trained, potty trained, and loves to go for walks. He is a polite boy, he sits for food/treats, loves a good chin scratch, and has quickly become a cuddly couch buddy.“
Eskimo Joe’s transformation was remarkable; he no longer looked like the dog that had been abandoned in the cold.
Though he is still looking for his forever home, he’s getting all the love and care he deserves in his foster family’s home.
“He is genuinely curious of the world around him and will need walks/time outside to quietly observe now that he’s free from his chain. This guy is as sweet as can be and deserves nothing but the best! Let’s find his forever home, he’s so ready,” said his foster mom.
