Sick ‘Skeleton Dog’ On The Brink Of Euthanasia Gets A Miracle Just In Time
A dog named Harlow fought against all odds, inspiring everyone around her.
This is the incredible story of how a miracle saved her life.
Harlow’s Struggle For Survival
Harlow, a Weimaraner, had been part of Alana’s family for years, always known for her playful, loving nature.
However, in 2021, everything changed when Harlow suddenly started losing weight despite eating well.
Tests showed no abnormalities, but Harlow’s condition worsened, and she became a “skeleton dog,” visibly deteriorating before their eyes. Despite the physical toll, Harlow remained full of spirit.
“Despite all that Harlow was going through, she never lost her spark,” Alana said.
As Harlow’s health continued to decline, her family feared the worst.
“We could see every rib, every vertebrae, all the bones in her legs. It didn’t matter how much we fed her. Harlow was deteriorating before our eyes,” Alana shared with The Dodo.
She became lethargic, refusing to eat or drink, and they were faced with the heartbreaking decision of ending her suffering.
That’s when Dr. Amy Lam, who had previously treated Harlow, made a life-changing diagnosis: Harlow had chronic neutrophilic enteritis, a rare form of IBD in dogs.
Harlow’s Miraculous Recovery
Harlow was put on a vegetarian diet to address her allergies to animal proteins, and the results were immediate.
She started feeling better, and her symptoms vanished within days.
Not only did she stop deteriorating, but Harlow began to gain weight and her energy returned.
By November 2022, her condition had improved so much that her chronic disease index scored zero.
“This little girl well and truly fought into remission. To say her veterinary team are absolutely amazing would be a huge understatement – they are forever heroes in my eyes,” Alana shared on Instagram.
