Mangy Deaf Pup Abandoned In Dumpster Becomes The Happiest Girl Around
Francine, a little pit bull puppy, was discovered abandoned in a dumpster.
Covered in mange and completely deaf, she desperately needed help after being cruelly discarded by her former owner. But she had no idea that her life was about to take a miraculous turn.
On The Path To Her Forever Home
When dog trainer Jessica Kupsik from Chicago, Illinois, heard Francine’s story, she knew she had to help.
Dark Horse Dogs, a local rescue group, reached out to ask if she would foster Francine, and Jessica couldn’t resist the chance to care for this little pup.
“I think mangy and deaf were the two selling points for me,” Jessica said to GeoBeats Animals.
As soon as they met, Jessica and Francine shared a unique bond. Francine may have had unique challenges, but she quickly proved that her personality was nothing short of vibrant.
Jessica’s other dog, Kona, welcomed Francine as a playful new sister. Francine was always on the move, making high-pitched noises to express her happiness as she zipped around the house.
Even though Francine was deaf, she quickly became the queen of the household.
Her funny, at times mischievous character brought so much joy and laughter to her foster mom.

Francine picked up hand signals quickly, but there were some behaviors that were just too adorable to “correct” — like her habit of leaping on and off the furniture!
“As a dog trainer, typically I’d be like, oh, you shouldn’t laugh at that. That’s so sad. But you can tell Francine has so much fun because she’ll jump on the couch and throw herself off again,” Jessica recalled.
The Silliest Little Acrobat
Francine’s silly antics never failed to surprise Jessica.
This quirky little love bug kept everyone laughing with her unpredictable moves!
Outdoors, Francine learned to focus and keep herself safe, even using eye contact to stay connected with her mom from a distance.
Once a discarded pup with little hope, Francine blossomed into a joyful family dog who embraced life fully, thanks to Jessica’s patient care.
When Francine was ready for adoption, Jessica realized she couldn’t bear to let her go.
She decided to adopt her, and Francine officially became a foster fail!
“I vowed to never adopt one of my foster dogs, but then this mischievous, deaf, bowling ball was found in the garbage and plowed her way into my life to test my patience as a dog guardian and skill as a dog trainer,” Jess shared on Instagram.
Today, Francine, Jessica, her mom, and Kona are enjoying life together in Chicago, Illinois. With her spirit and sense of adventure, Francine is sure to bring joy and laughter to her family for years to come.
