Paralyzed Dog Found Lying In Trash Feels Love Again
Halia’s story is one of incredible courage, resilience, and compassion.
This sweet dog spent days all alone, lying in the trash and water, waiting for someone to come and help her.
Weak and unable to move anything but her head, Halia’s cries for help were finally answered by a kind passerby who knew this poor pup needed more than just a simple rescue.
A Desperate Cry For Help
Donna Lochmann, Chief Life-Saving Officer of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, responded to an urgent call.
When she arrived, her team was shocked to see Halia lying helplessly in trash, unable to move but for her head.
The rescuers suspected Halia had been struck by a car and then dragged herself to safety.
With her back legs paralyzed and her spirit broken, Halia was terrified. The team approached slowly, eventually earning her trust, and wrapped her gently in a warm blanket before bringing her to safety.
A Loving Team Gives Halia Hope
Once at the shelter, Halia’s caregivers kept her warm, fed her slowly, and offered her gentle words of comfort.
They named her “Halia” in honor of a beloved dog at the shelter.
The vet team performed an X-ray to find the cause of her paralysis, though they could not determine a specific injury.
Still, the team remained hopeful as they showered Halia with compassion.
For a brief moment, Halia lifted her head, responding to the kindness surrounding her.
The team took her outside for a ride in the sunshine—a peaceful moment she seemed to truly enjoy.
A Tender Goodbye
On her third day, Halia’s condition worsened.
Too weak to eat or lift her head, she quietly passed, surrounded by loving voices.
Her rescuers whispered a final message: “You are so beautiful. We love you.”
In her last moments, Halia found the peace and care she had long been denied. Her memory will remain a cherished part of her rescuers’ hearts.
