Stray Dog Waits Outside School Daily Until Teacher Steps In

In Houston, Texas, Caleb Schaffer, a dedicated elementary school teacher, encountered an unexpected visitor every morning: a stray dog.

This is the heartwarming story of Clive, a dog who waited patiently outside the school for a chance at a better life.

Lovely Greetings Every Morning

One morning, as Schaffer arrived at the school, he noticed a dog sitting by the entrance, wagging his tail enthusiastically.

The sight was both curious and touching. Schaffer, pressed for time, had to head into class but couldn’t stop thinking about the dog he saw.

“He was sitting right outside the main door, and his tail started thumping when he saw me,” Schaffer told The Dodo.

After his classes, Schaffer went back outside to check on the dog, but he was gone. Local animal shelter staff had tried to catch him and scared him off.

However, the resilient dog returned to the school entrance the next morning, repeating the same routine.

Finally Got The Help He Needed

On the third day, Schaffer was determined not to let the dog slip away again. Noticing the dog’s poor skin condition and how skinny he was, Schaffer decided to act.

He took the dog to his car, brought him home, and asked his wife to look after him until he returned from work.

After school, Schaffer called several rescue organizations, but they were all overcrowded. Realizing he had to do something, he took the dog to a local animal shelter for basic vet care and a much-needed bath.

“I figured some basic vet care at the shelter was better than nothing. He was really suffering,” Schaffer said.

A Beautiful Story To Tell

The dog, now named Clive, had his story shared on Facebook. It quickly caught the attention of Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption, who found him a foster home.

Schaffer often shares Clive’s story with his students, using it as a teaching moment about the importance of helping stray animals.

“There are so many strays everywhere here. It’s given me an opportunity to talk about spaying, neutering, heartworm prevention, and the reality of shelters,” Schaffer shared.

Though some time has passed since Clive went into foster care, and it’s uncertain if he has been adopted, one thing is clear: Clive is a well-mannered, happy dog who now receives the love and care he deserves.
