Woman Finds Her Long-Lost Dog Living A New Life Then Gets An Unbelievable Call
When this owner set out to find their missing dog, they never expected to uncover such a shocking twist.
What seemed like a lost pup’s journey turned into a heartbreaking revelation that no one could have anticipated.
An Unfortunate Disappearance
Memphis was an adventurous and lovable dog who became part of his family at two years old.

From the start, Memphis made it clear that exploring and finding new adventures were his favorite activities.
“He has always been an opportunist who likes adventure. His most memorable rendezvous [was] a trip to the bar a few blocks over, where he spent the night enjoying popcorn with some of the patrons. He’s an extremely friendly dog, so he often got picked up by strangers until I’d find out where he was and retrieve him,” said his mom, Felecia Schoonover, to The Dodo.
One day in April 2019, Memphis slipped away again while Felecia was showering, and her kids were playing outside.
By the time she realized he was gone, Memphis had vanished.

“We drove up and down the neighborhood yelling his name with no luck. I spent the next week posting on Facebook and periodically checking the animal shelter. Over the years, I’ve periodically checked their website and Facebook page in hopes of finding him,” Felecia shared.
Heartbroken but determined, Felecia never gave up hope that Memphis might return one day.
After years of searching, she finally found him—just not in the way she had imagined.
A Face That Rings A Bell
Scrolling through social media, Felecia saw a missing dog post that stopped her in her tracks. It was Memphis!

Memphis’s new family shared the post after he had gone on another adventure and luckily been found again.
Though Felecia was overjoyed to know Memphis had been cared for all these years, she couldn’t bring herself to disrupt his life with his new family.
“I was so excited to know that he had been cared for over the years. I made a post in the same group regarding his origins, and someone on there informed me of how his new family came to have him — someone had snatched him up and sold him to them. I didn’t want to rip him away from a family who loved him and missed him the same way I loved and missed him,” Felecia explained.
Though she ached for Memphis, Felecia left a note with the local animal shelter, asking them to contact her immediately if Memphis ever ended up in their care.
Back Home At Last
The call Felecia had been waiting for finally came. The shelter had Memphis and wanted to know if she would take him back.

Without hesitation, Felecia said yes and rushed to reunite with her long-lost companion.
After adopting another dog during Memphis’s absence, Felecia was initially worried about managing two dogs and whether they would get along. But her fears quickly dissolved.
“Baby sister loves him and he’s quite fond of giving her kisses. He’s the same old Memphis we all remembered. His favorite place is still next to Mom on the couch, he still loves rooting under furniture in search of hidden crumbs, and he still loves cuddling up with my son, just like when they were young pups together,” Felecia shared.

Memphis’s adventurous spirit may have taken him far from home, but his journey ended where he truly belonged—with the family who never stopped loving him.
