Sweet Shelter Dog Just Wants To Hold Hands, Wishing To Be Taken Home

speck just wants to hold hands

Speck, a lovable shelter dog, spent over a year and a half waiting for a family at the Bullock County Humane Society.

Despite the scars on his face, he never lost his desire for human connection. Every time someone walked by, Speck would reach out his paw, asking for love and attention.

His affectionate nature remained unnoticed until a heartwarming video of him holding hands went viral, capturing the hearts of thousands.

Soon after, Speck’s life changed forever as he found a new home on a 26-acre farm, proving that sometimes all it takes is a little love to change everything.

All He Wants Is Love

“All he wants is people love,” said Desiray Miracle-Wilder, the shelter’s director, to The Dodo. “He will reach his little hand out and he just wants you to touch him and hold his hand. And he’s so sad when you walk off to finish cleaning or whatever you have to do.”

For a year and a half, Speck has been waiting in his small kennel, unnoticed by potential adopters.

Judging by the scars on his face, you might think this dog had a rough life on the streets, but Speck remains one of the most trusting and affectionate dogs at the shelter.

Focused On People

Speck’s sole focus is on getting affection.

“You could put anything else around him — another giant dog, a cat, but he is just so fixated on getting love from people that he doesn’t care about anything else,” Wilder said. “He just wants you to touch him. If you sit down, he’s laying on you, if you hold his hand, he’ll hold your hand, if you scratch his belly, he’ll roll over.”

A Viral Video Changes Everything

One Thursday, while cleaning kennels, Wilder decided to capture Speck’s hand-holding routine on video.

Hoping it would draw attention to the sweet pup, she posted the clip on Facebook. The video quickly went viral, racking up over 96,000 views in just a few days.

Speck’s charm reached more than just viewers’ hearts. Allie’s Hope For Paws Dog Rescue saw the video and helped connect Speck with a wonderful adopter.

“He will be running on a 26-acre farm with Mike, his family and two fur brothers!” Wilder shared on Facebook. “We are so excited. Not only did Speck get adopted due to this video of his cuteness but he also helped a few other fur babies get rescued and he got us some food donations!”

A Bright Future

Speck is now eagerly awaiting transport to meet his forever family.

While he leaves behind some other long-time shelter residents still hoping for homes, Wilder believes Speck’s story will inspire more people to adopt.

Thanks to his viral video and irresistible desire to hold hands, Speck is finally getting the love he’s been waiting for.
