Pit Bull Who Spent Over Two Years In A Shelter Can’t Contain Joy On His Special Day Out

Not all dogs are fortunate enough to be welcomed into a loving home.
Some endure harsh and traumatic beginnings, like Cider, a Pit Bull who spent his early years enduring the horrors of illegal dog fighting.
The Joy Of A Special Day Out
When he was rescued and brought to the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia, he was in terrible shape, both physically and emotionally.
With patience and care, Cider recovered and healed, though he has now spent over two years waiting for a forever home.

Despite his past, Cider’s spirit shines in moments of joy, like when he gets to step outside the shelter walls.
Although Cider was loved by everyone at the shelter, one person, Lindsey King, became especially bonded with him.
She had noticed the toll shelter life was starting to take on him and wanted to give him a break.
“Shelter life can be difficult on dogs, especially those who have been here for as long as Cider has,” King shared. “Cider remains a pretty happy pup, but we can see shelter life taking a toll on him.“
To cheer him up, King decided to take Cider on an offsite outing to a park where he could run and play freely.

“To lift his spirits and give him a break from kennel life, Cider – one of our longest dog residents – recently had the best day offsite full of sniffing and snuggles,” the Pennsylvania SPCA shared on social media.
The happiness Cider felt was undeniable as he ran through the field and jumped into King’s arms, his tail wagging non-stop.
King was overjoyed by seeing Cider so free, yet her heart ached knowing this would only be a temporary escape from the kennel.
Hoping For A Forever Family
After spending a perfect day at the park, King felt both joy and sadness. While Cider was happy in the moment, he had to return to his kennel.

“We only wish all of his days were like this,” the Pennsylvania SPCA wrote. “With the perfect family, they can be.“
Cider’s early life was full of hardship, and while he might need some time to adjust to a new home, King was confident that his future family would be rewarded with endless love.

“We know Cider’s people are out there,” the shelter said.
Until that perfect family comes along, Cider will continue to dream of a life full of love and happiness outside of the shelter.
