Freezing Mama Dog And Her Puppies Rescued From Abandoned House Just In Time
In St. Louis, Missouri, a group of rescuers learned about a family of dogs taking shelter in an abandoned house.
This poor momma dog and her puppies were struggling to survive without proper living conditions. They were cold, hungry, and desperate for a safe and warm place to call home.
Their situation was dire, but their rescuers were determined to give them a second chance at life.
A Life-Saving Discovery
Donna Lochmann of Stray Rescue of St. Louis received an urgent call about a pregnant dog spotted in an abandoned house.
The caller had seen paw prints leading to the location, raising concerns about the dog’s safety in the dangerously low single-digit temperatures.
“We followed paw prints through the snow to an abandoned building where a Good Samaritan said they saw a pregnant dog. The single digit freezing temperatures were dangerous and would be deadly to newborns,” the rescue organization shared on Facebook.
Donna and her team quickly searched the abandoned property and discovered the dog curled up in a corner, trying to protect her six newborn puppies from the freezing cold.
“Our fingers and toes hurt from the cold, we can’t believe this resilient little family survived as long as they did,” they added.
The pups were shivering, huddling together for warmth, but it was clear that the house provided little shelter from the frigid temperatures.
A Fresh Start For Grammys And Her Pups
The rescuers carefully leashed the mother dog, later named Grammys, so her puppies would naturally follow.
At first, Grammys was frightened and hesitant, but she quickly calmed down once she realized her family was safe.
The team brought the family to safety, naming the puppies Emmys, Oscars, SAG, Golden Globes, BAFTA, and Tonys to celebrate their remarkable survival.
Following an initial veterinary checkup, Grammys and her babies were sent to a foster home where they received the warmth and care they desperately needed.
For the first time in their lives, the little family experienced the comfort of a cozy, loving environment.
“Look how cozy and spread out they are now that they are safe and warm in a foster home. That abandoned house they were in felt even colder than the freezing air outside,” Stray Rescue shared on Facebook.
A Hopeful Future
Grammys and her pups are receiving plenty of love and care from their foster family, who are helping them adjust to their new surroundings.
Though it may take time for them to fully trust humans, their transformation is already evident.
Once they are fully recovered, Grammys and her six pups will be ready for adoption.
The team at Stray Rescue is hopeful that this resilient family will soon find loving forever homes where they can enjoy the lives they’ve always deserved.
